Winter Break Programs

Winter Break Programs Art - Arctic Adventure Campers will create their own wintery landscapes inspired by F. H. Varley’s paintings from his adventure into the arctic in the late 1930s. Following a visit to the gallery to see our current exhibitions, campers will work in a variety of media to create snowy 2D and 3D landscapes.

Art - Sketch and Draw Campers will be provided both the tools and the freedom to express their unique perspective through drawing. Projects may include perspective drawing, still life and visual memory exercises. Learn that a pencil isn’t the only tool you can use to draw!

Art - Workshop Wonders

Art - Paint Exploration Experiment with paint in this program, using watercolours and acrylics! Learn about traditional painting styles as well as contemporary approaches and experimental techniques.

Art - Sculpture Studio Have fun working with a variety of materials including clay and found objects to create 3-D masterpieces. Improve spatial and tactile abilities, problem-solve creatively, and ignite the imagination.

Art - Art in Everyday When it’s too cold to go outside, have fun inside creating art using everyday objects you might find around your house! Kids

Art - New Year’s pARTy! In this creative and fun camp, kids will use a variety of media and approaches to ring in the New Year with art! Welcome 2016 by creating personal keepsakes that reflect on all you accomplished in the past year and what you hope to achieve in the coming year!

Art - Winter Wonderland Campers will be introduced to capturing the magic of winter through art using a variety of media. They will have a ball painting winter landscapes and creating arctic animals from clay!

Art - Drawing Outside the Box Kids will put pencil to paper to record what they see in the world around them. Drawing sharpens observation and spatial skills, and this camp introduces kids to the basics of drawing including use of shape, line and form.

Art - Art from the Heart Campers will create unique gifts for loved ones in this camp using their own two hands! They will use traditional art materials and found objects to create personalized keepsakes to give to friends and family.

For the ART programs Before Care (8:00am-9:00am) and After Care (4:00pm-6:00pm) is available for Full and Half Day Art Camps at the Varley Art Gallery. Half Day Art Camp programs are repeated in the morning and afternoon.

Art - Play with Paint Paint is the name of the game in this camp so prepare to get messy! Through playing, campers will explore unexpected techniques, concepts, and paint applications. Learn about the fundamentals of colour mixing and brushwork, using watercolour and tempera paint to create one of a kind paintings.

Art - Create in Colour Add some colour to your white winter! Learn about how colours are made, represented and used in artwork. Discover the magic “rules” of colour and apply them in fun and unexpected ways through a variety of colourful mixed-media activities.

Art - Sculpture Factory Work in 3D and let your child`s creative juices flow in this sculpture-based camp that combines art, play and creative exploration. Improve tactility and spatial skills, while designing and creating a sculptural masterpiece using a variety of artistic materials.

Art - New Years Countdown! To ring in the New Year, campers will create fun and funky projects to celebrate the end of 2015, including New Years noisemakers and party hats!

Archery Camp This camp is designed to teach children basic archery skills and techniques. Qualified Instructors will introduce the fundamental skills of archery in a fun and safe environment. All equipment is supplied.

Holiday- Jr. Sports Camp

Are you ready to Step It Up and become the newest member our Dance Crew! Our Dance Specialists will provide daily lessons in a variety of dance styles like jazz, hip hop, acrobatics and musical theatre. All skill levels are welcome at this camp. At the end of the session is highlighted by a ‘Dance Showcase’ for parents/guardians.

Checkmate! Not your average day at Camp. Participants will enjoy three hours per day of chess instruction.

Young children can enjoy hours of fun playing sports and co-operative games all day.

Holiday Computer Camp

Holiday Learn To Skate - Preschool

A camp with a difference! A variety-based camp with a computer component. Campers will be involved in a variety of outdoor activities, co-operative games, sports, crafts, theme days, cooking, swimming, and special events. Participants will be introduced to computers and will receive 1 hour of computer time at a ratio of one computer to two children each day. An excellent range of fun educational software is used to introduce campers to the importance of computers. This camp is geared to children who enjoy the outdoors, socializing with new friends and learning about computers.

A beginners skating program designed to introduce basic skating skills to children. Participants gain confidence in their skating abilities through various activities. Participants will be grouped according to their age and skill levels. CSA Approved hockey helmets with face masks are mandatory. Failure to arrive at class with proper equipment will result in non-participation.

Holiday Extended Before/After Care This program is designed to supervise participants after their Day Camp program. A variety of indoor activities will be organized.

General Programs

Holiday - Sports Camp Participants will enjoy hours of fun playing sports all day long! Skill development will focus on soccer, basketball, tennis, floor hockey, volleyball and sportsmanship. Plus, there will be tournaments, special events, skating and swimming.

Holiday Chess & Badminton Camp Not your average day at camp! Campers will challenge their minds with daily chess instruction from our Chess Specialist and their bodies with daily badminton instruction & game play with our Badminton Specialist. Campers will also enjoy theme days, arts & crafts and swimming.

What better combination of science fun and sports. Explore the fascinating marvels of science through curious investigation and interesting experiments. Have the chance to participate in a variety of activities such as creating bubbling concoctions or slimy mush as well as arts and crafts, sports and games. Enjoy a memorable week filled with special events for everyone!

Holiday Power Skating & Hockey Skills

Kiddies Corner

The emphasis of this hockey skills development program will be skating posture, agility, stopping, edges, crossovers, backwards skating, puck control, passing and shooting. This program would benefit beginner and house league level players. FULL HOCKEY EQUIPMENT MUST BE WORN. The class will be divided into groups based on age and ability.

Holiday My Little Campers

Holiday Soccer Camp This specialty camp is designed for participants to develop basic soccer skills, including ball control, passing and shooting. Other activities throughout the camp include games, special events, theme days, swimming and organized tournaments.

Holiday Taekwondo Camp The most practiced martial art world-wide. The art of Tae Kwon-Do is guided by the principles of self-respect, respect for others and non-violence. The student of Tae Kwon-Do is not only trained in the physical aspects of the art, but he/she must learn to develop selfcontrol, courtesy, integrity, perseverance and an indomitable spirit. This is a full day camp.

Kinder Holiday Happenings Join us for a fun and exciting week of structured program and free play with friends. Preschoolers will participate in a variety of arts and crafts, songs, stories and games. Note: Please provide a peanut-free snack for y our child. No parent participation.

Museum - Camp KEVA! Design - Build - Play! Blending science with art, KEVA Planks brings out the designer, architect and engineer in each of us. With imagination and just a little help from gravity, campers will build structures and sculptures using identical construction blocks.
