“Chicago—The Musical” at Bass Hall A Broadway phenomenon since its inception in 1975, Chicago is a scorching musical satire on celebrity and crime. The musical is a fearless portrayal of the pursuit of infamy that could ring true in any decade. Set in 1920s Jazz Age Chicago, the tale focuses on two women
the world's longest musical revival is currently high-kicking its way across North American on tour, coming to Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, TX, February 16 - 18, 2018. Break out the fishnet gloves and tap shoes; practice your jazz hands, and plan to join us! As outrageous as the story appears, it was in fact inspired by the 1926 play of the same name, and Beulah Annan and Belva Gareter for the Chicago Tribune. The state's press and public were immediately enamored of the sensationalist reporting, making the women into celebrities overnight and changing attitudes whilst the Jazz Age freed women from previous societal bounds. Overnight Trip to tour the Painted Churches in Schulenburg, Texas Join us as we journey to south central Texas for this amazing tour! From the outside, they look like many American country churches built around the turn of the last century -- arched Gothic Revival windows, facades clad in white frame siding or in stone, lone steeples rising up into the Texas sky. Cross the threshold of these particular Texas churches and you'll encounter not a simple wooden interior but an unexpected profusion of color. Nearly every surface is covered with bright paintings: exuberant murals radiate from the apse, elaborate foliage trails the walls, wooden columns and baseboards shine like polished marble in shades of green and gray. These are the Painted Churches of Texas. Built by 19th century immigrants to this rough but promising territory, these churches transport the visitor back to a different era, a different way of life. Inscriptions on the walls read not in English, but in the mother tongue of those who built them: German and Czech. The story of these buildings is the story of a people striving to succeed in a new country and still preserve the values and culture of their homelands. We will depart Weatherford from the back parking lot of the Bowie Learning Center (900 N. Elm Street) at 1:00pm, Tuesday, April 17. It’s a four hour trip to Schulenburg. We will check Into our rooms at the Holiday Inn and then have dinner at Ina’s Kitchen across the street from the hotel. Wednesday morning, April 18, we will check out at 9:00am, load up and board the bus and head to the Schulenburg Chamber to pick up our tour guide and begin our 38 mile tour of four of the painted , St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and St. Cyril and Methodius Church.
