Tasting Notes
8
WINTERFEST is an opportunity to sample craft beers from great Minnesota craft brewers all over Minnesota. Make the most of it by taking the time to savor the flavor. With every beer you taste follow this simple three-step process; smell, see, sample.
SMELL – Don’t be shy. Stick your nose deep in the glass and take a big whiff. Breathe in the bright earth, spice and citrus of the hops. Let the cereal smells of malted grains overtake your senses. Yeast too brings smells; fruit, spice, sulfur, sour and funk. SEE – Hold your glass up to the light. Take note of each beer’s jewel-like color and pristine clarity (or the stylistic lack thereof). Brewers take great pains to raise that frothy head. Give them back a moment of your time to admire its texture, color and duration. SAMPLE – Finally you taste the beer. The sensation is so much sweeter for having indulged the first two steps. Let the sample sit a moment on your tongue. Is it a malty beer or do the hops hold sway? Perhaps it’s yeast that takes the day. And is that a subtle hint of spice that lurks in the background?

NORDIC BLONDE
This is a clean, crisp, delicately balanced beer with subdued sweetness and a pleasantly refreshing tang in the finish. This beer was our very first recipe. We bend this beer by using richer Munich malts to give it a more complex and deeper flavor.

BANCREAGIE SOUR 26
This is not our typical Bancreagie! Bancreagie Sour 26 was brewed smokier and heavier in an effort to handle eight months of barrel-aging. RUBUS BLACK BLACKBERRY IMPERIAL PORTER
Rubus Black is a modern take on a fantastic traditional style. This porter is big and malty sweet. SPICED SHEEPHEAD ALE
As the official card game of the Brau family, Sheephead is often a bitter affair. Hops trump this ale featuring spicy varieties in generous addition. when crafting a barleywine: time. Time to brew, time to ferment, time to condition. Enjoying barleywine calls for the same deliberation. So slow down. Sit down. Power down. Set the world aside. Sip, reflect, and repeat. Your patience has been rewarded.
WAR & PEACE
Fulton War and Peace is a Russian Imperial Stout conditioned with whole bean Peace Coffee in the fermentation tank. It’s an epic work of beer, but unlike the novel, this beer is brief and fleeting, appearing just once a year in February. Historic quantities of chocolate malt and roast barley clash over a field of dark roast Peace Coffee beans. Like Tolstoy’s masterpiece, it may take some time to finish and require some thought along the way. But by the end, we think you’ll find yourself better for the effort.

DEAD BRANCH
Dead Branch is an approachable yet satisfying Cream Ale. This style pre-dates prohibition and was developed by ale breweries in response to the popular American Pilsner. Traditional ingredients such as 6-row barley, corn, and Saaz hops, impart a smooth grainy flavor, a fresh aroma of sweet corn, and a subtle floral spiciness in a full-flavored and well-rounded ale.
