Thursday evening classes: Braided Elegance taught by Diane Gotham This basket has prebraided cording that will be glued on the handle before class.The sides are woven with 2 consecutive weavers or a chase weave. Using the braided cording you will cross the bottom and continue around to the side and up to the rim. Beyond Knotless Netting taught by Donna Kallner One of the oldest forms of basketry, looping includes many variations beyond basic knotless netting. Prepare to explore possibilities by learning the tthread control skills that are the focus of this workshop. You'll be stripping and goosing and making deliberate allocations for your loops and lags as you work a sheath over a "lost form". Includes Irish waxed linen, needles and your choice of stones or bark (the bark rolls make lovely ornaments). "Rimless Wonder" Basket taught by Ellie Lida Begin with a wooden base and insert narrow spokes. A narrow variegated flat oval reed, seasonal colors, bands the side. Friday Classes: Burundi Looping Pouch taught by Donna Kallner In Burundi looping, each stitch intersects with multiple previous rows to create a structure that looks more like a woven twill than like knotless netting. Before learning this complex looping variation, you will learn basic looping, and a bead looping method that helps establish a stitch count for the Burundi section. This class also introduces color trades and a captured lid. Includes handpainted Irish waxed linen and beads in a choice of colors, mold and needles. 1.5" x 1.5" All levels 8 hours $50.00
Rueben taught by Ellie Lidda This large oval basket begins with an oval slotted oak base. Lots of different weaving techniques: narrow 3mm chaining, paired triple twining and overlays. Learning to add beads and shape your won basket 'sculpture' will be the focus. A large selection of beads; silver, gold, colors, will be available to choose from. There will be birch strips for 3/4 of the sides of the basket. Walking Dream Net taught by Donna Kallner Learn to work circular elements that will have you dreaming of future projects built on round bases. This class focuses on freeform strategies for dividing space and joining motifs to create a filling for a teardropshaped willow dream catcher frame. You'll use both knotless and knotted looping stitches, and learn the needle chain technique used in oval bases. Previous looping experience is necessary. Athabaskan Birch Bark Basket taught by Karen Tembreull This piece is styled after Native Athabaskan birch bark baskets. The sides are bias plated, and the spruce root rim and foot are sewn with waxed linen.
