Yemen Weekly Market Situation Update Week 1: July 2015 SUMMARY

• Overall situation of markets has generally showed a slight improvement in the first week of July 2015 compared to previous weeks as a result of reduced intensity of air strikes and conflicts. This was reflected in slightly better availability of food and other essntial commodities as well as marginally lower prices despite increased demands during Ramadan. • The national average price of wheat flour declined by 2% in the first week of July compared to that in June, but it was 30% higher than pre-crisis period and 11% more than in 2011. Fuel prices were also dropped by 2% nationally during the same period. Aden continued to suffer the most from the serious market irregularities resulted from war-induced blockade. • Due to the combined effect of the nonstop war and increased demand during the Ramadan, the average cost of partial food basket rose by about 30% in June 2015 compared to the pre-crisis period and 10% more than in 2011.
