Abstract

The Zella Bucher (March 21, 1918-October 28, 1997) collection documents life on the plains in Keota, Colorado. The collection contains images and objects that tell stories of her family life and High School education and basketball career.

Biographical/Historical note Zella Bucher (March 21, 1918-October 28, 1997) from Keota, Colorado is the wife of Anthony Joyce (June 18, 1916-April 1, 2008) of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. The two leave behind four children: Jerome, Mary Ann, Bill, and Ellen along with eight grandchilren. Obtaining no higher than a High School diploma, Zella lettered in basketball and went on to be a housewife to her self-employed husband, Anthony. Much of Zella’s life focuses around the importance of sports at her High School and growing up in rural Keota, Colorado.

Scope and Contents note The Zella Bucher & Family Collection consists of Keota articles, Keota High School letter certificate, photographs, certificates and ribbons, High School diploma, graduation announcement, postcard album, and two scrapbooks. The materials of Zella Bucher offers insight into the history of growing up in Keota, Colorado through education, sports, and family life.
