Summer Reading AP English 2013 •
Read Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen, The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, Long Day’s Journey into Night by Eugene O’Neill, and Bee Season by Myla Goldberg. Write a comparative literary analysis exploring the connection between the portrayal of each protagonist and the time and place in which each literary work was set.

The essay should include primary source textual evidence and a Works Cited page.

Secondary source textual evidence is not required. However, if you use secondary sources, you must cite them.

In addition, you will be required to hand in a Vocabulary Notebook. In this notebook, you will record unfamiliar words you encounter through your reading. You should record the word (underlined), part of speech, a definition, and the textual context with parenthetical documentation.

You will need a total of 50 vocabulary words in your notebook.
•
The Vocabulary Notebook MUST BE handwritten.
Follow the example for James Joyce’s short story “Araby”: 1.
