LORD

Drama Presents

OF THE

RING

From No Limits By Jeff Smith Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 12:12 Themes: Unity; the Lordship of Christ. Cast: READER 1 READER 2 READER 3 READER 4 Running Time: 2 minutes Production Notes: This is a responsive reading using passages of scripture on unity and weaving through images from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, by J.R.R Tolkien. You will need to be able to project an audience response on a screen, or have a written program that prompts the audience when to respond. Although the cast is composed of four players listed without descriptions, you can choose to play the reading with Lord of the Rings characters like Gandalf, Frodo, Legolas, etc. I have tried to write in several options for you to consider. ALL READERS: One Lord to rule them all One Lord to find them One Lord to save them all And in the Spirit bind them. READER 1: You are the body of Christ. READER 2: A circle of believers. READER 3: A fellowship of faith. READER 4: A righteous ring. ALL READERS: And each one of you is a part of it. ALL: One Lord to rule them all One Lord to find them One Lord to save them all And in the Spirit bind them. READER 1: We were all baptized into One Spirit whether young and innocent. (Option: character name like “Frodo” or “hobbit” ) READER 2: Old and wizened. (Option: the name of “Gandalf” or “Wise One”) READER 3: Short and stout. (Option: “dwarf” or the name “Gimli”) READER 4: Lean and sharp. (Option: “elf” or the name “Legolas”)

(Other options for any of these lines might be, “Strong and brave” or you may say “ranger/scout” or “Aragorn” in keeping with the pattern you’ve decided upon. Going with characteristics like “strong and brave” will enable you to keep your characters non-descript.) READER 1: We are faithful to the Faithful One. READER 2: One King. READER 3: One Ruler. READER 4: One Lord. READER 1: His name is Jesus Christ. ALL READERS: He is the Lord of the Ring. ALL: One Lord to rule them all One Lord to find them One Lord to save them all And in the Spirit bind them. READER 1: We are a people with an epic story to tell. READER 2: The people who walk in darkness have seen a great light. READER 3: I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies. READER 4: You must be born again. ALL: One Lord to rule them all One Lord to find them One Lord to save them all And in the Spirit bind them. READER 1: Our struggle is not against flesh and blood READER 2: But against the rulers in dark places READER 3: Against principalities in high places READER 4: Against the powers in strong places READER 1: The weapons of our warfare are not carnal READER 2: We fight not with a sword. READER 3: We fight not with an axe. READER 4: We fight not with a bow and arrow (Note: If you play the script with “characters,” the weapons should align with the character in the story. The READERS should use a weapon consistent with their character above.)
