MEET THE WORLD’S “MOST EXPERIENCED” CHEVROLET VOLT DRIVER! North Carolina Octogenarian James Brazell Drives Off in a New Chevrolet Volt Extended Range Electric Vehicle This B-Roll package is free to use without restrictions or obligations for regularly scheduled news, business, lifestyle, energy and automotive TV news broadcasts and its corresponding websites only, covering the Chevrolet Volt: Here is the story overview:
Woodbridge, Virginia: February 2011: Eighty-four years ago, in the year 1928, Chevrolet impressed the automotive world when Chevrolet vehicles made the technological leap from sturdy four cylinder engines to the then new six cylinder engine, which began production in 1929. That was then...this is now! In the year 2011, eighty-four year old, James Brazell of Asheville North Carolina drove off in a new extended range electric Chevrolet Volt! Brazell, a retired oil and gas executive, pulled into a Virginia Chevrolet dealership with his daughter and grandson in his “vintage” 1998 Buick. Brazell placed his deposit on his new Chevrolet Volt two years ago and is taking trade-in dollars and donating the money to his local National Public Radio station. Mr. Brazzer is the first person in his Asheville, NC, retirement community to own an electric car – and likely only the second in the state. James worked for Texaco for 40 years, ultimately retiring as a vice president of oil exploration and development. He is currently taking a class at Asheville’s College for Seniors on sustainable energy, which focuses on how forms of wind, water, and solar energy might be able to meet the world’s future energy needs. When asked why he was interested in sustainable energy and transportation, James said: “We know that the oil supply is a finite resource. We also know that oil will eventually
become a scarcity, we just don’t know when. So, we need to start thinking now about what forms of energy can help replace oil.” James first became interested in electric cars in the 1990s, after driving GM’s EV-1, which he described as very smooth and exciting to drive. James had never seen or ever test drove the Volt, and had no concerns about buying a car sight unseen. He went online every day to read about the Volt, and from the coverage is confident it will be a good fit for his needs. “About 90 percent of my driving is less than 40 miles a day, so I expect to use very little gas,” James said. “But, the gas engine is there for extended range, if I want to take a longer trip.” Brazell is one of the first 500 drivers to take ownership of a Chevrolet Volt. James drives 30 miles per day - which means he be making his daily trips gas and tailpipe emission free and powered solely by electricity! SOT Full:
