Abstract
Sediment movement at estuaries and coastal of Terengganu were suspected from Kenyir Lake to river and estuaries and lastly to coastal. Source of heavy mineral from estuaries and coastal of Terengganu were suspected from Kenyir Lake sediment. Mineral distribution is not scattered thus affects the elements and nutrients supplied. Heavy minerals of four sediment stations, belonging to Setiu, Kuala Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman have been studied for their abundance composition and provenance determination. Parameters applied in this study are Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) and Quantitaitve Mineral Examination (QME). EDX and QME analysis were used to determine the mineral contents. A total of 46 stations were identified for the sampling stations, where 11 stations were sampled in Setiu, Dungun, Kemaman and 13 stations in Kuala Terengganu during July 2009. The heavy mineral crop is represented by anatase-blue (rutile), andalusite, ilmenite, leucoxene, magnetite, monazite, siderite, tourmaline, spinel, topaz and zircon. The assemblage is dominated by ilmenite, followed by topaz and zircon. However, the oxides and silicates group of heavy mineral were dominant in the sediments. The high concentration of specific minerals are from metamorphic and igneous origin reveals as the primary source for provenance of heavy minerals.

Abstrak
Pergerakan sedimen di muara dan pantai Terengganu telah disyaki dari Tasik Kenyir kepada sungai dan muara sungai dan akhirnya ke pantai. Sumber mineral berat dari muara dan pantai Terengganu disyaki dari sedimen Tasik Kenyir. Taburan mineral berat tidak bertaburan secara berselerak memberi kesan kepada unsur-unsur dan nutrien. Mineral berat di empat stesen sedimen, yang dipunyai oleh Setiu, Kuala Terengganu, Dungun dan Kemaman telah dikaji untuk taburan, komposisi dan penentuan asal-usul mereka. Parameter yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah Serakan Tenaga Sinar-X (EDX) dan Peperiksaan Quantatif Mineral (QME). Analisa EDX dan QME telah digunakan bagi menentukan kandungan mineral. Sebanyak 46 stesen telah dikenal pasti untuk stesen-stesen penyampelan, di mana 11 stesen sampel di Setiu, Dungun, Kemaman dan 13 stesen di Kuala Terengganu pada bulan Julai 2009. Hasil mineral berat diwakili oleh anatase-biru (rutile), andalusite, ilmenit, leucoxene, magnetit, monazit, siderit, turmalin, spinel, topaz dan zirkon. Taburan ini dikuasai oleh ilmenit, diikuti oleh topaz dan zirkon. Walaubagaimanapun, kumpulan oksida dan kumpulan silikat mineral berat adalah dominan dalam sedimen. Kepekatan yang tinggi pada mineral tertentu adalah asal dari metamorfik dan igneus yang mendedahkan sebagai sumber utama untuk asal-usul mineral berat.
