Preface to the First Edition I present with pleasure the first edition of the book on Advance Computing Technology. I hope that this book will work as practical guideline in all the concepts regarding Advance Computing like cluster, Grid and Cloud. This book covers the syllabus of Gujarat Technical University (GTU), – Gujarat. I am thankful to my family and friends for extending their full support to come out with this book. I extend my special thanks to Shri Prashant Patel ji, publisher of this book for giving me the opportunity to write this book. Reader’s views, comments and suggestions are welcome. Chapter 1 describes the concept of computing, eras of computing specially distributed computing, Scalable Parallel Computer Architecture, Windows opportunity. It explain in detail about Cluster Computer and Its Architecture, Cluster Classification, Commodity Components for Clusters, Network Services and Communication software. Apart from this it also focus upon Cluster Middleware and Single Systems Image, Resource management & Scheduling (RMS), Programming environment Tools, Cluster Applications, Representative Cluster Systems, Clusters of SMPS. Chapter 2 describes the software and hardware configuration for setting up cluster, different types of installation for cluster set up, security issues in cluster, working of various system monitoring tools in cluster and various methods for performance improvement in cluster. Chapter 3 describes the environment of scalability and measurement of scalability, working of distributed resource management system for cluster, load balancing in details and study of various loads balancing algorithm, PVM and its extension in cluster and it also explains some experimental sets ups for making scalable cluster. Chapter 4 describes the concept of grid and beginning of grid computing, building blocks of grid , grid application and grid middleware and evolution of the grid first, second and third generation. Chapter 5 describes grid context, grid support for collaboration, Building an initial multisite, computational and data grid, cross site trust management and Transition to a prototype production grid.

Chapter 6 describes virtual organization, nature and model of grid architecture, grid architecture and practice, intergrid protocols, grid relation with other technologies and other perspective on grids. Chapter 7 describes the concept of cloud computing and cloud definitions. cloud providers and associated cloud risks, consumptions of cloud services, basic cloud models, Administration of cloud services ,Technical Interface of cloud and Cloud Resources. Chapter 8 describes data center and cloud data center, cost of the data center, scaling technique in cloud, Understand work load management in cloud and cloud deployment model. Chapter 9 describes service model and system architecture of Iaas, Paas and Saas, infrastructure as a service and its benefits, platform as a service and its benefits, software as a service and its benefits, various Iaas, Paas and Saasproviders, detail difference among cluster, grid and cloud computing paradigm for perfect understanding of all.
