OF

MATHEMATICS, IIT ROORKEE, is focused to disseminate knowledge and share basic and innovative ideas about the applications of applied stochastic modeling and optimization for solving the engineering problems. The analytical and numerical techniques will be discussed by the subject experts and practitioners for the performance prediction of stochastic engineering systems. The successful applications of stochastic theory and optimization methods to examine the behavior of the real time fault tolerant engineering systems will be discussed.

About Department of Mathematics, IIT Roorkee The Department of Mathematics attained its present status of an independent department in 1960. Growing steadily, today the department not only teaches various topics in mathematics to undergraduate and postgraduate students of different engineering and science departments, but also runs its own M.Sc. Courses in Mathematics. The Department also offers facilities for research work leading to Ph.D. degree in different branches o Pure & Applied Mathematics, Operations Research and Statistics.

Objective The participants will learn new techniques and enhance their knowledge through the plenary/keynote addresses and expert lectures by the eminent resource persons in the area of applied stochastic modeling and optimization. The participants will not only exposed to the theoretical developments of applied stochastic models but also learn about the practical applications of in diverse areas of engineering systems including the telecommunication, computer networking, wireless communication systems, fault tolerant electronic and mechanical equipments, power plants, transportation systems, big data analytics, and many more.

Who can apply? This workshop will be suitable for the undergraduate/postgraduate engineering students, research scholars of Mathematical sciences and any Engineering branch, faculty members from any discipline of sciences & technology who are interested in the performance analysis of real time engineering systems using stochastic modeling and optimization techniques. The technical sessions will be arranged for the oral/poster presentation for the participants who are interested to present their works. The candidates can submit soft copy of abstract (300-500 words) for the oral/poster presentation by mail to undersign by 20 May 2017.

Registration For registration in the workshop ASMO-2017, send e-mail to [email protected] on or before 20 May, 2017. The registration fee for different categories is as follows:  Rs 1000/- for B. Tech./M.Sc./M. Tech. students & research scholars.  Rs 2000/- for faculty members and industry persons.  50% of fee is exempted for the students/research scholars of IIT Roorkee. For the outstation participants, accommodation will be arranged on prior information in the campus guest house/hostels on payment basis.

Speakers & Course Contents The faculty members from IIT and other premier institutes, will delivered the keynote addresses and plenary lectures on the theme of the workshop. The use of software tools will be demonstrated to solve the stochastic problems. The topics to be covered are as follows:      

Probability and Stochastic Models Birth death process and Markov models for the Performance Modeling Fault Tolerant Systems Genetic Algorithms (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) Stochastic Models for Computer Communication Networks Hardware and Software Reliability Stochastic modeling and optimization using MATHEMATIKA / MAPPLE / MATLAB software.
