KEY MONTHLY LIBRARY ACTIVITIES - 2012 Month: April

REACHING OUT TO… FAMILIES AND CAREGIVERS 1. On April 7, 2012, 60 children attended the Easter Egg Hunt at Memorial Park presented by the Port Credit Library. Children searched through the park for paper eggs they could use to complete their craft of an Easter basket. They were then given treats provided by La Villa Bakery and listened to a story about an Easter egg hunt.

OLDER ADULTS 1. Two author visits were held at Port Credit Library this month. Eva Stachniak, a prolific PolishCanadian author, visited the library on April 12, 2012 to read from her latest work, The Winter Palace, and answered questions from the audience of approximately 25. On April 5, 2012, local author Wayne Morden spoke about the game of golf and his book “For the Love of Golf: Musings of a Golfing Traditionalist “. 2. The Mississauga Choir visited the Port Credit Library on the evening of April 25, 2012 and put on a concert for delighted customers. Their choice of material, a celebration of music from across Canada, and beautiful singing voices made for a wonderful evening. 3. The adult film discussion group at the Port Credit Library discussed the Polanski film “Carnage” this month. They were joined by two visiting teachers from South Korea. 4. A knitting group from the Regency Retirement Residence visited the Port Credit Library for an afternoon of tea and knitting time for the “Squares of Care” campaign for the Canadian Cancer Society.

COMPLETING OUR NEIGHBOURHOODS 1. A group from OMFRA (Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs), the provincial funding agency for the ISF projects, took a tour of Port Credit Library and were most impressed with the services and facility. In addition to the tour, a presentation on the history of the branch and pictures of the renovation were shown to the group. 2. On April 18, 2012, Port Credit Library staff conducted a tour of the branch for a group of women from the Compass—the local Port Credit service agency for the economically challenged. A presentation was made on the history of Port Credit and the library, highlighting programs and services available for women.

LIVING GREEN 1. Your Green Yard program was presented at the Port Credit Library by a representative from the Credit Valley Conservation Authority on April 11, 2012. Participants received practical tips about native

plant gardening, attracting birds and butterflies and how to switch to low maintenance lawns.
