Background • Despite error-prevention efforts, medication errors continue to harm millions of inpatients and result in billions of additional healthcare costs annually • Hospitals are continuously working to optimize their medication use process to decrease medication errors and meet national standards for patient safety • Most effective error-prevention strategies, according to ISMP target system changes rather than rely on human vigilance • Medication barcode scanning technology offers a strategy to improve medication administration accuracy
Preliminary Results Methods • Mixed method study design will be followed to evaluate BCMA implementation at Broward Health ERDs • Electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR) documentation and follow up metrics reports will be created within discern analytics by information system analysts • Data will be manually filtered to exclude all out of scope cases
