Help Desk Training/Support FACULTY/STAFF Basic Computing Services offers training courses for all staff members each semester. These courses include: Introduction to Word, Intermediate Word, Introduction to Excel, Intermediate Excel, Introduction to Access, Intermediate Access, PowerPoint, Webmail, Internet Explorer, and , udora, Introduction to LINUX, Introduction to Networking, Web Publishing The Faculty/Staff Computer Help Desk provides telephone and on-site service and support to faculty and staff for issues relating to the computer hardware and software. Users with minor issues are assisted by telephone and often through the use of remote control software. This feature allows the user to be back in service with little or no downtime. More complex hardware and or software problems are resolved by our in-house technicians. STUDENTS All SPS Student Technology Assistants will receive valuable on-the-job training. In addition, the following training courses are to be completed: Computer Applications including: MS Access, MS Excel, MS Power Point, MS Publisher, MS Word, Lab Basics I, New Employee Orientation, Blackboard, Basic Hardware, Basic HW/SW Troubleshooting, Digital Media Pack Personal Skills: Communication Skills, Customer Service, Ethics, Time Management, Leadership Skills, Conflict Resolution New STA’s are required to attend New Employee Orientation and Lab Basic I. In addition to these courses, three others must be chosen within the first semester of employment. Of the three choices, it is recommended that two computer application courses and one personal skills course be selected. Returning STA’s are required to attend four courses each semester thereafter. It is recommended that two computer applications courses and two personal skills courses be selected. Blackboard is used to deliver some of these courses and others are presented in workshop form. Assistance is provided with blackboard issues, internet questions, student technology fee supported software applications questions, and e-mail account questions.
