Chapter 1 - Introduction This document gives overview of the learning methodology of BodhaGuru NjoyLearning solution. It also gives the detailed list of the topics covered by BodhaGuru application and content - mapped according to CBSE syllabus. A similar mapping can be easily done for other state boards too. Mission Our mission is to make education interesting, relevant and affordable to every child on this planet.

COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 4

Learning methodology Our objective is to enable children to get a better and deeper understanding of the core concepts of the school curriculum - i.e. the child understands the concept from the practical usage perspective (i.e. how to use the knowledge) vs. just-for-passingthe-exam (i.e. memorize a concept, pass the exam and then forget the concept). The following are the three pillars on which our entire solution is built: Learning made Interesting  Learning through story: We believe stories are the easiest and the most interesting form of explaining, remembering and applying any concept. Hence, a topic starts with a short animated story that introduces the topic in a subtle way.

COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 5

Our interesting stories make learning interesting, without the children realizing that they are actually learning a totally new concept.

Page 6

 Learning through apps: Children can learn through colourful apps in a fun way.

COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 7

 Practice and excel with apps: Some important topics have interactive practice applications. Children can practice in these amazing apps to consolidate their idea of the topic and excel.

COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 8

 Learning through pictures: Remembering a picture is easier than remembering a paragraph. So, all topics have colourful picture book which explains the whole topic in few pictures only. This is good for revision too.

COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 9

 Play and learn: Some important topics have educational game. Children need to have good idea about topic to play. Hence, those games would help to practice the topic with fun.

 Fun iBook for learning English: Children can learn English through fun iBook which are colourful picture storybooks with music, narration and amazing visual effects.

Page 12

Learning made relevant  Relevant moral stories: Many topics have relevant moral stories. Those stories show real life importance of the topics. Each story also reinforces strong values (e.g. moral values, financial values, ecological values, etc.) to the child (e.g. Dream big, don’t be greedy, love your parents, knowledge is power, taking a loan to repay previous loan’s interest will lead to vicious cycle of borrowing, control the monster of pollution before it controls the world, etc.)  Beautiful iBook to English through stories: English topics have beautiful picture-books which teach English through amazing fables, funny stores, fairytales etc. Those stories also can be used to teach many moral values. There are very simple short bedtime stories to long moral story or fable to teach new words, grammar rules, sentence formation etc to children.  Thoughtful question with real life scenarios: COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 13

The thoughtful questions help the children to build higher order thinking. Most of question is on real life scenarios which help to make the topic relevant to real life and make children understand the importance of the topic.

Page 14

Learning made affordable  Our solution is provided in a portable device which can be connected to a T.V. or project. There is no need for a multiple computers (PC, server), UPS or network connection (Internet or LAN) - thereby reducing the hardware cost a lot.  Our solution includes videos providing lessons, apps for practice, interactive quizzes for consolidating concepts, and slides for helping teacher in classroom teaching. Hence, our solution covers end-to-end components required for a great teaching and learning experience. Content Organization BodhaGuru content is organized in the following way:  Application (for a given language and one or more classes): o Subject: Maths or Science or English

COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 15

 Set of Topics (within a given subject): Each topic (aka chapter) may be broken down into multiple lessons (or sub-topics) and includes the following type of content Videos: This includes story related videos which help teacher to teach in an age-old teach through stories method to raise interest in children about the topic and detailed topic videos which teach the topic using simple, real life examples. iBooks: iBook are colourful picture storybooks with music, narration and amazing visual effects which teach new words, grammar rules, sentence formation etc to children. Q & A: This includes story related questions and topic related questions - subjective as well as multiple choice questions and answers. Picture Book: Colourful picture books which explains the whole topic in very simple and precise manner. Learn and Practice Applications: This includes cool applications and games to explore a given concept. Recommended Learning Flow BodhaGuru recommended flow is given below - please feel free to adapt/modify according to your needs. Preparation  Before teaching a particular topic, the teacher goes through the topic inside NjoyLearning device - the lesson plan, the associated videos, the slide shows, picture books and questions - before discussing with the class. This activity will take minimum half an hour (depending upon the complexity of the topic). Explaining the topic The following flow can be followed to teach a particular topic in one or more periods within a week (recommended operation time of the device should be 15-30 minutes per class followed by interactive discussion):  PERIOD1: o The teacher and the children together watch the rich animated story videos. The story helps to generate interest in the children about a given topic. It also COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 18

introduces the topic to the children without the terms/definitions. Each story imparts strong values (e.g. moral values, financial values, ecological values, etc.) to the child (e.g. Love your country, peace has its own reward) which builds a strong foundation in the child because we believe “Teaching values need not be a separate subject - it can be imbibed while teaching rest of the subjects”. o At the end of the video, the teacher discusses the story related questions and answers with the class for the remaining period. The open ended subjective questions help the child to build higher order thinking and communicate their view-points - thereby improving their communication and language skills.  PERIOD2 and further (depending upon sub-topics within a topic): o In the next period, the teacher and the children watch one or more detailed animated videos that explain the topic - preferably taking one sub-topic at a time. These topic videos are built upon the examples given in the story videos - thereby connecting story to the topic and making it easy for the child to COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 19

understand the topic. While teaching English, teacher needs to play iBook to teach the topic. o The teacher then explains the topic to the class using the picture book for the remaining period. This document explains the whole topic in just few high quality pictures & images helping children to learn easily. Remember, “A picture is worth thousand words”.  PERIOD3: o If a given topic has “Practice” option, then the teacher can go deeper in the topic and explain it using the rich immersive applications. This will help children to build deeper understanding of the topic.  PERIOD4: o The teacher can then discuss the topic related question and answers with the class. The goal of this period should be to brainstorm, discuss and go deeper in the topic. This engagement will increase the interest level in the children.

COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 20

 PERIOD5: o When teaching English, the teacher can read storybooks to children or ask children to read it. After story, the teacher can ask questions from the story to conduct a short comprehension test.

COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 21

Revising the topic Just before the tests or exams, the teacher can start all the videos for a given topic.  The children watch the rich animated story and detailed videos to revive the topic in their memory.

COPYRIGHT – © BODHAGURU LEARNING PVT LTDTM

Page 22

The teacher may use picture books for quick revision as children would be able to remember most of the part just by remembering the pictures.

 The teacher then uses the topic related subjective question-answer (Q&A), quiz to revise the topic.
