Course Objectives Accounting concepts and tools will be used in most of the master courses. Therefore all the students are required to have a good knowledge of accounting grounds before starting each program. This preparatory course aims at reviewing the basics of Financial Accounting. In short, the preparatory course reviews the following main issues: • The role of Accounting. • The process of accumulating, identifying, measuring and recording financial information. • The framework for making business decisions using financial statements information. • How to analyze the Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Statement of Cash Flows, with emphasis on valuation.

Course Content Summary Each of the following double sessions will be organized as follows: first accounting concepts and theory will be introduced and then some illustrative examples will be provided. • Accounting: purposes and tools • Accrual Accounting and Adjusting Revenues and Expenses • Sales revenues and accounts receivable • Cost of Good Sold and Inventory • Long Lived Assets (Tangible and Intangibles, measuring acquisition cost) • Long Lived Assets (alternative depreciation methods and disposal) • Review Session • Bonds (Straight Line and Effective Interest Amortization methods) • Equity (Definitions and Common Stock Transactions) • Accounting for Income Taxes (emphasis on deferred income taxes DIT) • How to compose a Balance Sheet and Income Statement (examples of transaction analysis) • Statement of Cash Flows • Statement of Cash Flows (examples)
