Cost-Effective Network Scaling

Abstract: Different methods in how to improve the scalability of small to medium-sized companies will be the main emphasis of this study. As such what we would include in this study are the different approaches of companies in terms of scaling. Also we would show the different effectivity of the scaling methods in a fixed time-frame.

Introduction: Here we will show the various product pricing which we recommend based on how a company would expand itself. We will also cover a short summary on Network scalability as a break-in for companies who are not all-too familiar with network scaling’s. The essential parts that are included are; the “ Network Interface Card” which is a device enabling a computer to communicate and the “ Network Switch” which allow the computer to be connected to multiple computers, servers, printer, servers and other hardware. Though the two would allow a computer to communicate within a limited network we would also need a “Router” that would enable the computer to connect between computers and the modem. The router would then be serviced with a “ Network Hub” that would allow the connection of either a router or multiple computers directly. But all of these would still rely on an “ ISP” or an Internet Service Provider that would truly allow a company’s network to be connected to other outside networks. While of course having all this to connect to outside network is crucial, another significant part of a company would be a “ Server” that is a computer that would act as an information holder that would allow the computer within the and outside of the company to retrieve information at a faster pace.

Sample Case Given below is a default set-up of a small scale company Company users IT Product Management Support/Management Marketing Guest Total Internet Speed

Bandwidth Distribution 20mbps 10mbps 7mbps 3mbps 40mbps

Number of employees: 8 Annual increase: 12% (subject to company needs) Nature of business: web developer for logistics Total price:140,000

Pro’s Fast Connection

Con’s Expensive implementation Requires 4000php/head to increase network load Solution: The same network scaling can be achieved at a much cheaper cost with the products listed below.

1. Network Interface Card

LB-Link

2. Internet Service Provider

3. Router

4. Switch

5. Hub

6. Server (optional)

Up to 1Gbps

P5,000/ea

24Ports

P15,000/ea

16Ports High-end CPU (for faster transfer of information)

P4,000/ea P15,000/Server

the same network load could be handled at 124,000php.

Pro’s Cheaper implementation cost Same result yield Effective static scaling of 12-16 years

Con’s Negligible performance drop on some of the hardware’s that are not provided.

Conclusion Though there would be a performance drop present with the implementation, but due to the nature of work of the company it would be seen as negligible. Therefore we conclude that with this resources: it is feasible to lower the cost of a company’s network cost

Summary on Network Scalability Definitions: - Scalability – the ability of a computer program/application/product to be able to grow and still function well, despite any changes. - Network Scalability – Specifically, the ability for a network to continue functioning properly after any changes made.

Reasons for needing scalability The future will bring about many changes. Events, such as new technology, more staff, and growing businesses, should be considered when designing and constructing your program/network. Should these event occur, the network must be able to grow easily, in order to prevent any undesired circumstances?

What must be considered? -

Future Changes Available Manpower & Resources Budgeting &Finances Limitations &Capabilities Short & Long Term investments
