Sheet 1 1. Note that Excel is set up as Columns, Rows, and Cells. Show how to determine cell location manually and also from the Name Box above A1.
Chart Data Chart Wizard-

a. Can still edit the chart b. Can change the type c. Right mouse button gives LOTS of options Enter Data (select one of 2 options) Option 1 – Using M&M’s (or Skittles) Name Column A – Color . Name Column B- Monday, Column C- Tuesday, Highlight and drag handle thru Friday. Type M&M colors (red, blue, yellow, green, brown, orange) in Column A Enter the amount of M&M’s received for each color for everyday except Friday. Column B (Mon) – Column E (TH.) We will add Friday later. Proceed with Chart Wizard. Option 2 – Recording High Temperature for 5 weeks. Name Column B- Monday, Column C- Tuesday, Highlight and drag handle thru Friday. Type in Column A - Week 1, Week 2 highlight and drag handle down to Week 5. Enter the temperature for each day through Week 4. Do not enter for final week at this point. We will add it later. Proceed with Chart Wizard. Chart Wizard icon 1. Chart Wizard- highlight completed data > click 2. Step 1 – Chart Type - Select type of chart Note Types, Chart sub-type, and Press and Hold to view button Click Next 3. Step 2 – Chart Source Data Data Range Tab – can switch data from x to y (and y to x) Series Tab- can name or change the name of a series 4. Step 3 – Chart Options - Titles Tab – name chart, x and y axes Axes Tab – can remove data labels Gridlines Tab – add or remove gridlines Legend Tab – show or place legend Data Labels Tab – add labels (like series name) to chart can add a separator if more than one (comma, space, semi-colon) Data Table Tab – show the data in a table below the chart 5. Step 4 – Chart Location As new sheet- places chart in a separate sheet with a tab at the bottom of the workbook As Object In – can select which sheet to place the chart on Editing the Chart 1. Change Series Color (all bars) – double click on a bar > select color > OK. 2. Change Color of One Item in a Series (one bar) – click on the bar, click it again to select (places handles around it) > double click on it select color, pattern, shadow, or fill effects > OK. 3. Add data to chart – click on the chart to select it > go to data > enter data for Friday (or Week 5) > drag handle over data for Friday (Week 5) > this adds it to the chart 4. Change background where the data is plotted – double click in the background of the plot area > select color, pattern, shadow, or fill effects > OK. 5. Change background around the plot area – double click in the background area outside the plot area > select color, pattern, shadow, or fill effects > OK. 6. To Change the Scale to 100 – double click on the largest number – on the Scale tab change the Maximum Number to 100 > OK. 7. To Change the Title or Axes Titles- click to select > click again and make changes > click off the chart. 1
Creating a Simple Chart in Excel Lesson Plan 8. To Place Values above the Data – double click on a bar in the series > select the Data Labels tab > check Value > OK. The Value will appear above each bar. 9. To Add Data (Another Series) to the Chart – Enter data on the worksheet. Click on the Chart (note the Fields and data are each selected.) Point your mouse on the bottom handle > it becomes a double sided arrow > drag the handle across the new data > release. The data is added to your chart. You may need to edit the new Series. 10. Edit the completed chart- Right click in an area outside the plot area. You may change the chart type, options (title, x and y axes), among other selections. 11. Change the alignment of the y axis title- Double click on it > select the Alignment tab > in the Orientation box > drag the red diamond to the desired placement > OK.
Print the chart Click on the chart to select it> click on the printer icon. If you do not select the chart, it will print the data and chart together. WYSIWYG Basic Calculations (Formulas) 1. Use Sheet 2 - Enter some numbers in Column A 2. Highlight the data in column A Click on the ∑ get the SUM 3. Delete the sum. 4. Highlight the data in column A Click on the down arrow to the right of the ∑ Select Average. Now you have the average of the range of numbers in the column. Delete the Average. 5. Highlight the data in column A Click on the down arrow to the right of the ∑ Select Count. Now you have the count of the range of numbers in the column. 6. Click on fx This brings up Insert Function now you have several choices: • you may select the calculation, • type in the formula, (in the Insert Function text box. • or click on a cell, select the operation, click another cell, press Enter. We’ll learn the last method which I think is the easiest! 7. Growth Formula - Type Data Q1 in a cell Type Data Q2 in a cell. Growth in next cell. Type 75 in the cell below Data Q1. Type 95 in cell below Data Q2. Click on cell below Growth. In fx (function text box), type = click on the cell containing the # 95. Type – (minus.) Click on cell containing the # 75. Press Enter. You’ve created a formula for Growth! Q2 – Q1 = Growth Remember you can drag down to copy the formula in the Growth column.

Quick way to get a chart/graph - highlight data > F11 key then you can right click to edit nd 2. alt+enter Creates 2 line within a cell type a word, press alt+enter, type another word 3. Insert Clipart or photos a. Select cell b. Insert > Picture > From File or Clipart? > browse to select the desired image c. Using handles, adjust image size.

Double click on a Data Series (column) > Pattern tab > Fill Effects button > Picture tab > Select Picture button. Browse to select the picture. Click Insert. Select Stack and Scale to Determine scale each picture= 1 or one picture = 2 OK > OK. Right click in gray plot area > select Format Plot Area > select white > OK.
