Workshop I+II Monday 8th October, 17:00 – 19:00
Workshop I “Fumigation”
Monday 7th October, 17:00 – 19:00 Salon 2
Good Fumigation Practice (short: Fumigation) Organized by Gerhard Jakob and Jonny Allegra Detia-Degesch Group
The scope of the Workshop “Good Fumigation Practice” is to show the proper application of any formulation of metal phosphides and phosphine gas for the purpose of fumigation of all kinds of objects and commodities in order to eradicate insect pests including quarantine treatment of transport containers. The workshop shows the requirements for a safe and effective fumigation using phosphine in four simple steps: - Preparation - Application - Monitoring - Ventilation In these four steps among other things sealing methods, application methods, application devices, gas monitoring devices and their handling, insect tolerance monitoring methods and personal safety equipment will be presented.
Workshop II “Mycotoxins”
Monday 8th October, 17:00 – 19:00 Hall A
Mycotoxins in food– scope, challenges, activities, mitigation options – example Africa (short: Mycotoxin) Organized by Ute Rieckmann and Karl Moosmann GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH)
This workshop facilitates a discussion on different perspectives on the problem of mycotoxins in food with data from Africa. Recent Results from the work of international Agricultural Research Centers will follow an introductory problem analysis by the Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa. An overview covering test methodologies (optional exercises) will lead into a discussion on approaches for better mycotoxin mitigation.

Workshop III+IV Thursday 11th October, 17:00 – 19:00
Workshop III “Hermeticity”
Thursday 11th October, 17:00 – 19:00 Hall A
Testing hermeticity of rigid and flexible structures for fumigation and controlled atmosphere treatment of stored products (short: Hermeticity) Organized by Dirk Maier, Samuel Cook, and Ricardo Bartosik 1 2
ISU (USA) INTA-CONICET (Argentina)
Given the growth in adoption of hermetic storage technology especially of plastic bags ranging in size from a few kilos (e.g., hermetic bags for smallholder farmers in Africa) to many tonnes (e.g., silo or grain bags in South and North America), a common international approach for testing and rating hermeticity (i.e., air tightness) is needed. The purpose of this workshop is to develop a consensus on establishing an international engineering standard for testing and rating hermeticity (i.e., air tightness) of rigid and flexible structures for fumigation and controlled atmosphere treatment of stored products.
Workshop IV “Museum”
Thursday 11th October, 17:00 – 19:00 Hall B/C
Museum pests and novel IPM (short: Museum) Organized by Pascal Querner and Bill Landsberger 1 2
Univ. für Bodenkultur (Vienna, Austria) Staatl. Museen (Berlin, Germany)
Short introduction on IPM in museums, and specific challenges, pests, treatments and solutions in comparison to stored product protection. In a practical part, monitoring traps used in museums will be presented and discussed. How do we do monitoring in museums, what traps are used and what do we do with the results? In a talk pest control treatment will be presented: Overview of the most important non chemical (and chemical) treatment methods in museums used today in central Europe. In another practical unit most important museum pests will be identified. In this last practical part we have a close look at the most important museum pests.
