10TH ADVANCED DOCTORAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTING, ELECTRICAL AND INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS May 8-10 Caparica, Portugal TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION FOR INDUSTRIAL AND SERVICE SYSTEMS The Advanced Doctoral Conference on Computing, Electrical and Industrial Systems is celebrating its 10th edition (DoCEIS 2019) with a focus on Technological Innovation for Industrial and Service Systems. The industry and service sectors are going through profound transformation towards digitalization and integration of new levels of “smartness”. The idea of a 4th industrial revolution, represented by terms such as Industry 4.0, Smart Manufacturing and Economy 4.0 are an expression of such transformation. This movement is characterized by an increasing digitalization and interconnection of systems, products, value chains, and business models. The interconnection between the physical and the cyber worlds – CyberPhysical Systems and Internet of Things – and the integration of the socalled “exponential technologies”, are central features of this innovation trend.

Call for Papers DoCEIS'19 contributors are challenged to identify in which ways their research topics can contribute to or benefit from the research theme and are encouraged to participate in this conference.

Among other activities, it includes: Presentation of research results by PhD students (co-authored by their supervisors);

Tutorials by invited experts on scientific, methodological, or soft skills topics; Presentation and discussion of the base ideas of the thesis plans; Discussion of the scientific and technical challenges in the several Electrical and Computer Engineering specialization areas; Sharing of experiences among PhD students from different geographical regions; Forum on practical aspects (e.g. Publications, job markets, careers, etc); Creation of collaboration (social) networks.

Prospective authors of research papers are invited to submit their manuscripts reporting original work, in any of the scientific areas of the conference. Papers describing advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques and general survey papers indicating future directions are also encouraged. Nevertheless, each paper must make a clear link to the main theme of the conference, including a section describing that link. Following the successful previous editions, proceedings are going to be published by Springer, IFIP AICT series (indexed in Web of Science, SCOPUS and DBLP). To celebrate the 10th Edition of DoCEIS, extended version (although original) of best papers will be considered to be published on a special issue of Computers and Electrical Engineering Journal (Elsevier).

Topics: (not limited to) Computational and Perceptional Systems Energy

Enterprise Collaborative Networks Control and Decision Electronics Informatics Applied to Electrical Systems Robotics and Integrated Manufacturing Industry Information Systems Telecommunications Biomedical Engineering Signal Processing

Regular papers (8 pages): Clear formulation of the research question and its motivation; One section (section 2) relating the PhD work to Industrial and Service Systems (1 page); State of the art / related literature; Research contribution and innovation. Discussion of results and critical view.

Conclusions and further work. References.

Thesis overview papers (16 pages): Extended overview of of a PhD thesis finished during the last year, including research question, hypothesis, approach and main findings; Also include a section relating the PhD work to Industrial and Service Systems (at least 1 page).

For further details, please check the pdf version here.

Note: research paper selection will be based on full text, double blind review. However, prospective authors should submit a short abstract in advance, in order to check if the proposed topic fits within the conference scope.

CALL FOR POSTERS PhD students are invited to submit a poster to the 10th Doctoral Conference on Computing, Electrical and Industrial Systems (DoCEIS'19) held at Caparica (Lisbon), Portugal, May 8-10, 2019. Poster presentations describing working in progress, related to the conference research areas, are welcome. This event will give PhD students the opportunity to present and discuss the main ideas of their thesis plans. Accepted posters will be included in a deliverable to be distributed to DoCEIS’19 participants. The poster session includes a short presentation by the Author, followed by discussion with attendants supported on the poster with A0 maximum dimension (841 mm x 1189 mm).

Poster Submission Guidelines Prospective authors are invited to submit a short abstract (2 pages maximum) to check if the proposed topic fits the conference scope. All posters should include the following sections: Problem Area Motivation, Research Question, Hypothesis and Planned Approach. Highlight how your work contributes to the main theme of the conference. Poster submissions must be made using the EasyChair submission system. Log in with the username and password you created during your initial submission. You then will be presented with a list of your submitted posters/papers. You may then select to either edit your existing information (address, email address, etc), if needed, and/or resubmit your poster. Submission of posters and/or creation of accounts is done through EasyChair.

Conference Areas The areas under the scope of the DoCEIS'19 are the following, but are not limited to: 

Presentation of research results by PhD students (co-authored by their supervisors);

Tutorials by invited experts on scientific, methodological, or soft skills topics;

Presentation and discussion of the base ideas of the thesis plans;

Discussion of the scientific and technical challenges in the several Electrical and Computer Engineering specialization areas;

Sharing of experiences among PhD students from different regions;

Forum on practical aspects (e.g. Publications, job market, careers, etc);

Creation of collaborative (social) networks.

Templates and Formating Authors should follow the provided templates in order to meet format requirements.

Important Dates Submission of abstract Now

Submission of full paper Extended Dec. 29th 2018

Notification of authors Jan. 31th 2019

Submission of camera ready Feb. 16th 2019

Submission Method Before starting your paper, please read this instructions to ensure that your submission is compliant with LNCS format.

First authors would be PhD students. However, prospective authors are invited to submit a short abstract in advance (70 150 words), in order to check if the proposed topic fits within the conference scope. Abstract submission is done directly in papers submission system, without needing special formation. Before you proceed, carefully read the templates and guidelines.

Templates and Formating These templates and formating are strongly advised by all authors submitting a paper. Only papers compliant with LNCS format will be published. MS Word template for papers

Guidelines for paper preparation When preparing your paper, keep these guidelines in mind. 1. Explicitly show how the work contributes to the main theme of the conference. 2. Originality of research: clearly state what is new. The degree of novelty will be one of the major evaluation criteria in the review process. Relate the work to existing previous work in the field. 3. Paper to be authored by the PhD student (who must present it) and the supervisor and possibly other research colleagues.

VERY IMPORTANT: After the introduction, include (if you haven't done it yet) a section "2. Relationship to industrial and service systems" in which you clearly show the main contributions of your work to the main theme of the conference ("Technological Innovation for Resilient Systems"). This is mandatory in order to ensure that the Proceedings book has a consistent "message".
