This lesson covers the same grammar area as Lesson 8A (The futurological conference) on pages 76–77 of Straightforward Pre-intermediate Second edition Student’s Book. It could, therefore, be used to replace or supplement this lesson.

Lead-in

1 You may want to ask the students to look at the photos and elicit or pre-teach the following vocabulary: payphone, vinyl records, print vs digital, film camera vs digital camera. You can ask the students which they think are most out of date and why. 2 You may want to make a note of the class’s ideas on the board in order to check their predictions against though of the article in Reading exercise 1.
