A Call for Collaboration on World AIDS Day – message from FIND CEO In honor of World AIDS Day, we at FIND join the voices around the globe that applaud the huge progress that has been made over the last decade, and call on the community to continue the vital work that will one day end this disease. Thanks to that progress, HIV is no longer the world’s leading infectious disease killer. The annual number of new cases has been falling since 2015. More than 20 million people are on antiretroviral therapy – a near threefold increase since 2010. More...

TECHNICAL GUIDANCE

WHO World Malaria Report 2017

The ability to evaluate RDT performance reliably and accurately using an internationally recognized reference standard is critical. FIND partnered with the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control to create the first World Health Organization International Standard (IS) for Plasmodium falciparum antigens. The IS was validated by an international collaborative study in 13 laboratories across 11 different countries. More...

Xpert Ultra TB test: Results of FIND's major multicentre evaluation are released Global Tuberculosis Report

Stop TB Partnership & TAG report

Results of an evaluation of the performance of Xpert® MTB/RIF Ultra (Ultra) are now available in the Lancet ID. Ultra is a second-generation, molecular tuberculosis test that has shown increased sensitivity over its predecessor. The assessment of Ultra’s performance was conducted in 2016 in a multi-centre study at ten sites in eight low- and middle-income countries, coordinated by FIND, and conducted by FIND and the NIAID-sponsored Tuberculosis Clinical Diagnostics Research Consortium. FIND's malaria RDT interactive guide updated with Round 7 results

Tuberculosis Research Funding Trends 20052016

The market for malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) consists of millions of RDTs sold annually, with more than 60 manufacturers and over 200 available products, many with a wide range of characteristics, prices and…quality! For procurers to be able to select the right product that meets minimum quality standards, and at the same time fits the needs of end-users and the constraints in areas where malaria is

prevalent, FIND provides an interactive guide allowing easy search using key criteria related to product performance, robustness, and test characteristics. The interactive guide has recently been updated with the Round 7 results of the last product testing. Since January 2017, over 5000 requests from 106 different countries have been registered, demonstrating that the guide successfully meets its purpose. More...

Signing of Moscow Declaration to END TB

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on world leaders to “step up scientific tuberculosis research and develop effective diagnostic tools, vaccines and medicines, including those aimed at treating resistant forms of tuberculosis.” Speaking at the first WHO Global Ministerial Conference, Ending tuberculosis in the SDG era: a multisectoral response, President Putin emphasized the need for urgency and a collaborative approach to tackle TB. Viral hepatitis diagnostics: The past, present and future

FIND co-authored six papers in a series published by BioMed Central (BMC) titled Testing for chronic hepatitis B and C – a global perspective. This supplement, funded by the World Health Organization (WHO), coincided with the 2017 World Hepatitis Summit in Brazil that took place early November. It includes essential articles relating to the WHO 2017 Guidelines on hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) testing, critical information on HBV and HCV diagnostics and recommendations for the global health community to combat these diseases. New target product profile for a test that predicts progression of TB

The End TB Strategy, introduced by the World Health Organization and adopted by the World Health Assembly, aims to reduce TB-related deaths by 95% and new TB infections by 90% by 2035. Approximately one quarter to one third of the world’s population is currently infected with the M. tuberculosis bacteria and the risk of developing an active form of the disease among infected individuals is between 5 and 15 percent. More...

MSF, WHO & FIND seek expert feedback MSF, in partnership with WHO and FIND, has led the development of a target product profile (TPP) for a multiplex multi-analyte diagnostic platform technology. Essentially, a test capable of detecting a wide array of different disease markers using a single patient sample. The three organizations now seek public comments on the draft. More...

The malERA Refresh Consultative Panel on Basic Science and Enabling Technologies

In collaboration with the malaria community, MESA (Malaria Eradication Scientific Alliance) has led a consultative process to update the malaria eradication research agenda (malERA), bringing together more than 180 scientists, malaria programme managers and policy makers from around the world, including our very own Head of Malaria, Iveth González. malERA Refresh has now been published in PLOS Medicine. Congratulations to everyone involved! View articles here.
