A Message From Freeholder John C. Bartlett, Jr.
n behalf of the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders, I welcome you to the Fall 2010 issue of Out & About Ocean County, A Free Newsguide to Arts & Heritage Events. Fall is a special time of year in Ocean County. The cranberries are harvested and sports enthusiasts from all over the world find their way to our bays and forests.
The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders will host the 28th annual Ocean County Decoy and Gunning Show at Tip Seaman Park in Tuckerton on September 25 and 26. Wells Mills Park in Waretown will celebrate the Pinelands with the 11th annual Pinelands Jamboree on October 9th. Preparations continue to honor Ocean County’s involvement in the American Civil War (1861-1865). We understand that over 800 veterans of that conflict are buried in Ocean County graves. Many others were laid to rest on distant battlefields throughout our torn nation. We hope to make some of their stories available to you during the coming years. The New Jersey Ninth Regiment was famous as a crack group of sharp shooters. Many of their members were baymen and hunters from Ocean County. In January, we will be hosting the second county-wide Arts and Heritage Summit at the newly renovated stage at the Ocean County College Arts & Community Center. The public is encouraged to come and provide feedback on the 2011 draft of the Ocean County Cultural Plan and share their vision of the needs and aspirations for the future of arts and heritage in Ocean County. I hope you are able to join me and get out and about and enjoy the arts and history offerings for the fall of 2010. Sincerely,
Freeholder John C. Bartlett Jr.
