Adding a HTML block Use this guide if you want to add a customisable block to your course. You can put anything you want (text, hyperlinks, images) into an HTML block but this document will focus on using them to provide hyperlinks to other websites. 1. In your course, click on the Turn editing on button. 2. Now scroll down to Add a block located at the bottom of the existing blocks. Click on the drop down arrow list labelled Add … and choose the entry for HTML.

3. This should create a new block called (new HTML block). 4. Click on the edit symbol in the new block and you will be presented with an icon entitled Configuring a (new HTML block) block.

5. Type in a name for the Block Title: (or leave it blank).

6. Use the Content: area to add the content you would like to appear in the block. In our example we are going to have simple lists with each item being a hyperlink to a web site. Type in the list of items (e.g. childcare, Hairdressing online, etc.) Put each item on a new line. Use Shift Enter (hold shift key and press Enter button) at the end of each item to keep the line spacing to a minimum. 7. To create each hyperlink follow steps 8-12 below 8. Highlight the text by dragging the mouse across it 9. Click on the chain icon to Insert Web Link 10. In the URL field type in (or paste in) the address of the web site 11. Use the Title: field to add a description that will be shown if somebody hovers their mouse over the link 12. Change Target: to New window

13. Click Insert (and repeat for other links) 14. When you have finished adding the hyperlinks click on the Save changes button at the bottom of the screen, and then finally move the block to where you want it to appear on the course.
