Because of the lagging economy during the past several years the Personnel Standards and Education Commission had chosen to freeze tuition rates for our courses. As a matter of fact, until last year, the Alabama Fire College had not seen a tuition increase in 14 years. In comparison, both the Auburn University and the University of Alabama have increased their tuition by approximately 70% during the same time frame. However, because of costs associated with aging vehicles, apparatus, and infrastructure, the addition of a new classroom building and apparatus bays, and the simple increase in the cost of living as time has passed, a tuition increase of 10% for all Alabama Fire College courses was implemented in October, 2017. The second scheduled increase of 8%-10%, will occur on October 1, 2018.
This change is being announced so that you can request appropriate funding for the upcoming fiscal year during your budget preparation. Following is a link to a spreadsheet which illustrates Alabama Fire College tuition costs that will become effective on October 1, 2018: http://www.alabamafirecollege.org/docs/default-source/Short-Term/tuition-increase.pdf?sfvrsn=6.
