Give each student an apple workmat (made of butcher paper or construction paper). Cut apart apple cards for students to use as counters. Students take turns rolling two dice and saying an addition problem using the numbers rolled. Each student uses the apple counters to model and solve the problems on the apple workmat. As an extension/follow-up, have the students glue in place the apples for three different problems and then write the problem and answer (using the apple pie addition recording sheet.
