ME… Saturday 30 September; 11.30am & 2.30pm Tickets: £7/£25 Family (4 tickets)

THE COAL PORTERS Saturday 23 September; 7.30pm Tickets: £14; £13 concessions The Coal Porters claim to be the world’s first “alt-bluegrass” act, demonstrating the power of fiddle, mandolin, banjo, acoustic guitar and doghouse bass when matched with four-part harmonies and memorable melodies. They have taken this sound around the world being featured on NPR’s Morning Edition in the USA and having recorded a live session for Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2.

Firmly established on the UK and European touring circuits and possessors of their own sound, The Coal Porters are an acoustic act with attitude. Their live show is polished yet passionate and second to none.

The world is a very big place, especially for a tiny baby penguin who is just finding her feet. The shimmering stars and glistening snow spin around our little hero, while the mountains tower high and the wind rushes to and fro. And although baby penguin may be small her family know she’s the biggest thing of all. This early year’s favourite is a lovely and touching story about a parent and their love for their child by much loved children’s author Emma Dodd.

THE FB POCKET ORCHESTRA

THE ROAD TO HUNTSVILLE

Friday 6 October; 7.30pm Tickets: £12; £11 concessions

Wednesday 4 October; 7.30pm Tickets: £12; £11 concessions

Blues, Ragtime, Hot Jazz, Songs and Dances from long ago. Working backwards from the 1930s, the FB Pocket Orchestra explores repertoire that formed the embryo of what is now known as popular music.

Written and Performed by Stephanie Ridings Directed by Jonathan V McGrath

The FBPO became an ‘official’ project in the spring of 2012 and released its first album in October. The aims of the orchestra are to present a contemporary slant on popular acoustic music from the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.

‘I’m trying to understand why British women fall in love with men on death row. I’m corresponding with Jonny, incarcerated in Texas. I’m trying to understand how the death penalty fits into our world. I’m trying not to be judgemental’ As seen on BBC2s Edinburgh Nights, The Road to Huntsville blends fact with fiction and is an exploration into unconventional love, state homicide and cats.

‘Atmospheric, yet vibrant, this charming collection of songs will make you wish you had been born some 100 years ago. The style, glamour and ‘fabulousness’ of this era is captured beautifully on the album.’ Jazz FM

Winners in the Best Duo category at the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and ten times nominated since 2001 in the Best Duo, Best Song & Best Live Act categories.

WINNER – Best Theatre Week Three Adelaide Fringe. In this hilarious, one-(freakishly talented)-woman show, Penny, a direct relation of Austen’s flirtation Thomas Langlois Lefroy, tackles all of Jane’s beloved characters with song, dance and appalling cross-stitching. Flushed by four years’ success from Edinburgh to Toronto to Regina Saskatchewan, comes New Zealander Penny Ashton’s collaboration with Jane Austen (deceased). How will Miss Elspeth battle literary snobbery, cousin Horatio’s digestions and her mother’s nerves, armed only with a blushing countenance, excellent ukulele skills and being quite bright, you know... for a girl?

Chris While and Julie Matthews’ musical partnership began in 1993 when they were key members and writers in the legendary folk-rock group The Albion Band. In 1997 they left the band to concentrate on their work as a duo which has seen them tour throughout the world. Their fans include Richard Hawley, Eddi Reader and Judy Collins. Friday 20 October; 7.30pm Tickets: £12; £11 concessions

Host of Virgin Radio’s Drive-time show, The Xtra Factor and Celebrity Haunted Hotel Live!

Flossie Malavialle is a French born singer who has been based in the North East of England since 2002. Several years on, her profile has gone from strength to strength, playing throughout the UK and far beyond. Her collection of 12 albums (so far) is a reminder of how much work and dedication she has put into her music career.

A lot has happened to Matt Richardson since his last tour in 2013. A lot of it is quite strange. Most comedians hope to win accolades and make people laugh, very few end up with Heat Magazine’s Weird Crush trophy. From interviewing millionaire dogs in LA, ghost hunting with Craig Revel Horwood and having his phone nicked by Kate Moss – it’s been an odd, but fun, few years. Now Matt can finally tell people about it, as well as talking about everything else on his mind.

Matt is one of the country’s most in-demand satirists, having appeared on The Royal Variety Performance 2015 (ITV), Have I Got News For You (BBC One), Mock the Week (BBC2 Two), Rory Bremner’s Coalition Report and Election Report (both BBC Two), 8 out of 10 Cats (Channel 4), Question Time (BBC One), This Week (BBC One) and Jon Richardson Grows Up (C4).

“Raise a Glass. Raise a Family. Raise a child.” ‘I don’t really have any one memory of when or how this all started. I’ve never made a show about myself before. Never felt the need to but then again this story is only partly about me … Something happened when I was a child that made life both deeply unbearable and beautifully profound. At the same time a weird alchemy occurred, something good from the bad, and it stirred in me a deep fascination to perform that I just couldn’t shake off.’

Following a total sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival’s prestigious Cabaret Bar, we are delighted to host Matt’s latest nationwide tour.

Fluid Motion Theatre Company presents Rum in the Gravy Boat, a play that seeks to highlight a world in which an estimated 700,000 children under 16 in the UK live with a parent who is dependent on alcohol. Developed through autobiographical storytelling, physical theatre and humour, Rum in the Gravy Boat is a playful exploration into how theatre can be used to make sense of the past.

His solo shows are intense, eclectic, spellbinding and deeply moving. There is no-one who has more successfully combined the diverse elements of British, Afro-American and old-timey music than Simpson. His 15 years living in the US were well spent. In addition his own songwriting has produced some real gems, from the truck-stop epic, Love Never Dies to the profoundly moving Never Any Good and One Day. www.martinsimpson.com
