Automatic creation of ontology using a lexical database I-MOTIVATION

Ontologies are resources for the representation and retrieval of information, often used when one wants to add semantics to a syntactic construct. However, the construction of ontologies is a task that demands a lot of time and a great knowledge of the domain. The attribution of meaning to the terms of the domain for the composition of the ontology can be difficult due to the ambiguity inherent in natural language. One possible solution is to make use of lexical databases and ontologies available on the web. NLDB 2016 - 21st International Conference on Applications of Natural Language to Information Systems

Automatic creation of ontology using a lexical database II- Goal

Design and implementation of a computer system named AutOnGen (AUTomatic ONtology GENerator), that makes use of the WordNet and SUMO ontology to attribute meaning to terms of a domain and to build up an ontology.

Automatic creation of ontology using a lexical database III- The Proposed System The system entry is a list of selected terms of a domain.

NLDB 2016 - 21st International Conference on Applications of Natural Language to Information Systems

Automatic creation of ontology using a lexical database III- The Proposed System The first step in the system is the translation of the terms of the list to the English language.

Automatic creation of ontology using a lexical database III- The Proposed System The translated terms are annotated according to their syntactic class to allow the finding of the term head.

This module queries the google ngrams database to verify which term has the highest probability of been the hypernym. NLDB 2016 - 21st International Conference on Applications of Natural Language to Information Systems

Automatic creation of ontology using a lexical database III- The Proposed System

the class hierarchy is obtained by means of successive queries to SUMO's website. NLDB 2016 - 21st International Conference on Applications of Natural Language to Information Systems

Automatic creation of ontology using a lexical database III- The Proposed System

Translate the class hierarchy of each term and issues a file in the owl format. NLDB 2016 - 21st International Conference on Applications of Natural Language to Information Systems

NLDB 2016 - 21st International Conference on Applications of Natural Language to Information Systems

Automatic creation of ontology using a lexical database IV- Conclusions

The system does not generate relationships between the terms of the domain. The system was applied to a list of terms extracted from the electrical power domain. The generated ontology had 64 percent of its terms correctly classified.
