Barnes Park Campground, Eastport Almost a quarter mile of sandy Lake Michigan beach, hiking trails and two pavillions. Located 18 miles northwest of Shanty Creek, take M-88 north to US-31. No entrance fee. 231-599-2712 for information. Elk Rapids Public Beach, Elk Rapids Located at the end of River Street, this public beach offers a large sandy beach on the shores of Lake Michigan. Public restrooms with changing areas, picnic tables, grills, and a large grassy area for games, plus close proximity to downtown, make this a great beach. 26.5 miles from Shanty Creek.
