Behaviour during Preheating of Continuous Casting Refractories J. Madias, E. Brandaleze, M. Bentancour, G. Walter
Some of the black refractories used in continuous casting process are made of A1203-graphite. The preheating process before costing sequence start is necessary to improve the behaviour during service and the mechanical properties. In this work, the characterization of two stopper rods and two SEN is presented. Samples taken from them were thermally treated at 1200 OC in oxygen as a critical atmosphere and in nitrogen. The conditions that prevail
during tundish preheating are not exactly known. Other factors that also affect stopper rods and nozzles in service are the wear caused by the molten steel, slag and the skulling by inclusions and tundish slag. The most important properties of these refractories during casting ore thermal to molten steel or slag shock resistance, erosion ~esi~ance JY'; and clogging resistance. . I
