Binghamton University Construction SUMMER 2012 HIGHLIGHTS

Binghamton University Construction Summer 2012  Large and small construction projects were

completed during the summer 2012 construction season. Completed projects include:        

Chenango Room renovation/addition Library Courtyard Addition Lecture Hall Concourse Phase 2 Renovation Athletic Fields Upgrades Sidewalk Upgrades in several locations Water Line Replacement University Downtown Center Restoration Library Corridor Upgrades

Chenango Room Renovation/Addition  The project included: 









Complete renovation of the dining area with serving stations Construction of an Einstein Bros Bagels restaurant addition The Chenango Room kitchen was relocated and the private conference dining areas were relocated and renovated A glass and insulated panel wall was constructed along the east side of the Chenango Room New mechanical systems were also part of the project.

square feet of space  Seating for 45  New landscaping and outdoor seating

Lecture Hall Concourse Renovation  Phase 2 of the Lecture

Hall Concourse renovation upgraded spaces on the north side of the Lecture Hall and Lecture Hall 7  The project included new flooring, seating, lighting, and wall treatments

Athletic Fields Upgrades  The project included the

following: 



 

12 tennis courts, six handball courts and two basketball courts A new varsity baseball field with new dugouts, bleachers and press box A women's varsity softball field on the west fields Replacement of the tennis courts on the east side of campus, which are open for use at this time

Sidewalk Improvements  Sidewalks in a number of locations were replaced

East and West entrance areas of the old University Union Sidewalk in front of Lecture south entrance Sidewalk near the Student Wing Sidewalk near Academic A Sidewalk on West Drive near Academic B Sidewalks around Physical Facilities Sidewalk near the Science 3 service drive will be replaced

Water Line Replacement Project  Completed replacement

of 3,200 lineal feet of the water line  The project included work in a number of buildings to replace valves and other plumbing infrastructure

University Downtown Center  UDC was re-opened on schedule in August  In the re-design of building systems, some key

equipment including the electrical transformer and emergency generator are no longer be located in the basement. Other equipment in the basement was installed in racks above the floor. The height of an exterior brick wall around the new transformer and generator will be increased in the coming months for aesthetic reasons

Library Corridor Refurbishment  The renovation included new floor tiles, ceilings,

improved lighting, fresh paint and new or refurbished doors to the hallways.

New and Continuing Projects  University Union Renovations  Central Campus Quad  East Campus Housing  Dickinson Hall Renovation  HTHW Replacement  Center of Excellence

University Union Renovations  Construction is underway

on the north side of the UU  The renovated space will house some key student services such as the Career Development Center, the Center for Civic Engagement, Tutoring Center, Educational Opportunity Program and TRIO  Completion in August, 2013

University Union Renovations  Construction will soon be

underway in the Susquehanna and food court area as well  The spaces will be merged to create an open marketplace-type venue with a variety of food options  A 5,500 square-foot addition is part of the scope of work  Work is scheduled for completion in 2013

Central Campus Quad  The contractor focused on

the east side of the Quad and the area in front of Fine Arts throughout the summer  A number of trees that were diseased were removed from in front of the Fine Arts Building  New trees along with other landscaping will take place in September and October and the project will be complete in November

East Campus Housing  Work underway in Johnson and



 



O'Connor Halls includes construction of wall studs, dry wall along with electrical and other utility work The buildings are nearly fully enclosed, windows are installed and roof work is almost complete Interior work will continue through the fall semester On Rafuse and Digman Halls, exterior panels are being put in place and roof work is underway. This project will be complete for the fall 2013 semester

Dickinson Hall  Asbestos abatement and

demo is underway in Dickinson Hall  The project will transform the former dining hall into a one-stop student services center for the University  Offices for student accounts, the registrar, financial aid and admissions recruiting will be located in Dickinson Hall  Completion in spring 2014

HTHW Replacement  A new high-temperature hot water

 



 

line will be put in place in the grass area between Science 2 and Science 3 Significant excavation and utility work underway Work includes a new high temperature hot water line, new electrical duct bank, and removal of above ground high temp hot water lines Other work involves removal of the concrete wall and bench along Science 3, resetting pavers along Science 3 and landscaping Substantial completion in fall 2012 Landscaping and walkway restoration in spring,2013

Center of Excellence  Work on Phase 2 is

underway  The second phase entails constructing the shell (metal panel, glass, stone), green roof, mechanical and electrical systems, fire protection and interior fit out  The project is due for completion in 2013

Other Projects  There were many other smaller projects to improve

facilities around campus including: 

   

Upgrades to kitchen counters, baths and breezeways in Hillside Steel stair replacement in the Susquehanna Community Repair of sidewalks and pavers Connector Road Paving Refurbishment of doors
