BROADWAY COMIC’S Mission Statement: To obtain the most knowledge of comic books and give outstanding customer service. To take suggestions and comments into consideration for our operation. Obtain the latest comics/graphic novel releases and their related films for sale. To establish a comfortable and accessible setting for our customers to find what they are looking for. To become involved in the community and help give local artists opportunities to become involved. Our Target Customers: Students attending colleges within the Capitol Hill community Local artists & comic connoisseurs Young adults enjoying entertainment within the Capitol Hill community
Executive Summary: Having a limited budget in spending on furnishings due to the expense of a business space, it will be important to invest wisely. Ways to cuts costs starting out will be to find furnishings second hand. With a little bit of paint and work can go a long way for a new and fresh look for the store. Unfortunately comic book shops don’t make a profit close to 4 to 5 years, but once you’ve established a strong customer base within the first couple years can cripple the fear of a failed business. Once a strong customer base has been established, better furnishings and expansion can become optional. It will be important to become involved in the artist community for exposure for the store and at the same time give support to our local artists. I would like to see open evening art shows twice a month in the store for our local artists. I would like to hear feedback from our local artists how we can become more accommodating to them in the future. It is possible that a nice influx of local artists may stop into the store for art displays and art openings. That is why I’d like to have a small space for the store to have available art supplies related to comics for purchase. I believe this will be also encouraging for new customers interested in art and comics to try new artistic pursuits. In order for full operational store we will need one full-time clerk and one part-time clerk. I will be the full-time clerk to minimize costs and most likely a full-time student can work the weekends. My plan is to hire someone who is interested in comics and preferably someone who has more knowledge about comics than I do, but not a requirement.
Another important aspect of running a comic book shop is to know what is selling. I will frequently check up on such information. Here I have provided a chart/graph that shows the top 5 selling comics for each month of 2009:

Objectives: 1. Attracting New Customers Cheap and effective ways: Through local based comics and magazines Flyers School newsletters 2. Why is Broadway Comics different? We try to acquire any comic (we mean any!) upon request for a fee with the resources we have available We offer to our new customers the option to open a file to hold new comics for them upon release. We sell comic book merchandise, graphic novels, books, and comic based art supplies We encourage artists to submit their art work to the store 3. Continuity of the regular customer visit Opening a file will follow frequent visits from a customer to purchase what we saved for them upon their request. Adding new art work to display & organizing art showing during the evening hours
Most importantly being involved with the local artist community and the events surrounding them It’s this kind of information that I will follow up monthly before I place orders for re-stock on popular comics.
Our Motto: “There are too many comics to read to not waste time not reading them.”-Zachary S. Bodurtha
