Calendar salutes old tractors T
HE 2012 Classic Farm Tractors Calendar is now available, and every tractor featured looks as though it just came off the assembly line. The 2012 version of the calendar is the 23rd in a series. “This is the original calendar featuring restored tractors of various brands from different states in the U.S.,” says John Harvey. He created the calendar in the late 1980s to promote a new
DuPont soybean herbicide called Classic. Tractors featured come from California, Iowa, Illinois, North Carolina, Montana, Missouri, Minnesota, Ohio, Nebraska and Virginia. Many are well-known models, but some are rare, according to Harvey. A 1926 A-C is the pinup model for April. It is owned by Iowan Arland Lepper of Hubbard. “When you think of this brand, the color orange comes to mind,” notes
Harvey. “But his 20-35 Special is green with red steel wheels.” (Persian Orange came along in the early 1930s.) The Special produced 10 additional horsepower units, sported a Fulton exhaust whistle and a sharp-looking canopy. New, it cost $1,897. A parade of Allis-Chalmers tractors appear on the cover of the 2012 calendar, showing A-C collectors driving to a Gathering of the Orange in Albert City, Iowa.
