HOSKINS RECEIVES COUNTY ADVOCATE Florida Tech Launches New Site at Whiteman AFB Degree Opportunities for Military, Civilian Students

AWARD FROM COUNTY COMMISSION ASSOCIATION OF MISSOURI

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology is pleased to announce it will offer military and civilian students the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree at the Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri starting in fall 2016. The FIT Whiteman site will offer a bachelor’s degree in logistics management, as well as master’s degrees in logistics management, acquisition and contract management, human resources management, project management and management. The university will also offer a master of business administration and a master of business administration in cybersecurity. “We are pleased and proud to be a part of the community at Whiteman Air Force Base,” said Ted Richardson, senior associate dean and professor, Florida Tech Department of Extended Studies. “It will be our pleasure to help the airmen and civilians working in and around Whiteman achieve their educational goals.” A military friendly school, Florida Tech helps active military personnel afford specialized master’s degrees through its Wisdom Warrior program, which caps tuition at $250 per credit hour ($750 per course). Typically, this allows students with Military Tuition Assistance to earn a Florida Tech degree with little out-of-pocket cost. Program and application information for FIT Whiteman may be found at http://www.fit.edu/whiteman.

The County Commissioners Association of Missouri, one of the state’s leading county advocacy groups, recently announced that six state legislators would be honored by the association for their commitment to improving county government operations. State Rep. Denny Hoskins, R-Warrensburg, is among those six legislators, and received his County Advocate Award at a reception hosted by the Johnson and Pettis county commissions at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 27, in the commission room at the Johnson County Courthouse. HB 2140, sponsored by Rep. Hoskins this year, was a main factor in his nomination for the award. The bill extends the deadline for counties to place the motor vehicle/marine sales tax titling “fix” to the November 2018 general election. “I am proud to stand in defense of our counties and local governments. The thirty-three counties that still need to place the issue on the ballot are making an effort to protect local auto and marine dealers, and HB 2140 gives them an additional two years to accomplish this. It’s important that as state legislators we work with the counties to protect local businesses, and support local government,” said Hoskins, R-Warrensburg.

WMMC Foundation Receives Donation from Central Missouri Speedway Central Missouri Speedway donated $1,000 to the Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) Foundation to be utilized in the WMMC Cancer Center. Central Missouri Speedway chooses three organizations to donate to annually. This year, they’ve chosen the WMMC Foundation (Memorial Day weekend), Heart Awareness (Independence Day weekend) and Homes for Our Troops (Labor Day weekend). Shad Badder, pictured, helped to raise a large portion of the donation to the Cancer Center by giving rides to contributing fans in his two-seater modified car. “We feel it is extremely important for the track, fans and drivers to keep a close relationship with the community and through three charitable donations we can take that one step further by ensuring that we give back to the local communities where many of the drivers and fans live,” said Sam Stoecklin, spokesperson. “The WMMC Foundation is extremely grateful for the generosity of businesses like Central Missouri Speedway,” said Scott Crist, Foundation Director. “Our board and volunteers are looking forward to contributing to the success of the hospital through major donations such as this.”
