Configuring the NetGear N150 wireless router for use in the residence halls This document will help you to set up a wireless network in your room on campus. If you have difficulty with this procedure, or have questions, please contact the Resident Networking help line at 508-910-4000. Connect your wireless router: 1. Using  an  Ethernet  cable,  connect  one  end  in  to  the  yellow  port  on  the  NetGear  N150  wireless   router  and  the  other  end  in  to  the  Internet  port  provided  for  you  in  your  room.   2. Using  another  Ethernet  cable,  connect  your  computer  to  one  of  the  black  Ethernet  ports  on  the   router.   3. Make  sure  your  router  is  plugged  in  and  turned  on.   Restore your router to the factory defaults: 1. Using  a  sharp  object  such  as  a  pen  or  paper  clip,  press  and  hold  the  Reset  Button,  located  on   the  back  of  the  router,  for  about  5  seconds.    The  power  light  should  begin  to  blink.  

2. Release  the  reset  button,  and  wait  for  the  router  to  restart,  and  for  the  Power  Light  to  stop   blinking  and  become  solid  green.  

(Refer to the user manual for detailed information regarding LED indicators) Configure your wireless router: 1. Open  a  browser  (i.e.  Firefox,  Internet  Explorer,  etc.)  and  type  192.168.1.1  in  to  the  address  bar.   2. Login  in  to  the  router.    *  Note:    The  default  username  is  admin  and  the  default  password  is   password.  

3. On  the  left,  under  the  Setup  section,  click  on  Wireless  Settings.    

  4. Change  the  Name  (SSID):  Enter  your  room  number   5. Make  sure  Channel  is  set  to  Auto   6. Under  Security  Options,  select  WPA2-­‐PSK  [AES]   7. Enter  in  a  passphrase.    This  will  be  the  password  required  to  connect  to  your  wireless   network.   8. Click  Apply  

Change the password to your router: (This is the password used to access your router settings. Be sure to keep this password safe.) 1. On  the  left,  under  the  Maintenance  section,  click  on  Set  Password  

2. Type  the  old  password.    (Note:  The  default  password  for  the  router  is  password.)   3. Type  a  new  password,  and  type  it  again  in  the  Repeat  New  Password  field  to  confirm  it.     1. Click  Apply  to  change  the  password.    (Note:    You  will  be  prompted  to  log  in.    Remember  to  use   the  password  that  you  just  set.)    

Register the router: 1. When  attempting  to  go  online  for  the  first  time,  you  will  be  redirected  to  the  UMass  Dartmouth   Network  Registration  Page  (netreg.umassd.edu).  

2. Log  in  to  the  registration  page  using  your  UMassD  Logon/email  username  and  password.   3. Follow  the  instructions  to  complete  the  registration.    Once  registration  is  complete,  wait  5   minutes  and  restart  your  router.   4. Once  the  router  has  restarted,  from  your  wireless  device  (i.e.  laptop,  tablet,  phone,  etc.)  select   the  wireless  network  name  you  set  as  your  room  number.   5. When  prompted,  enter  the  password  you  set  when  configuring  your  wireless  settings.   6. You  should  now  be  able  to  access  the  Internet.
