What do you need for a Remote Desktop connection? You no longer need a VPN connection to remotely access your computer. Remote Desktop gateway will provide you a secure and easy way to access your work PC from home. You will need: 1) 2)

Put your computer to sleep or turn it off (yes, turn it off!) when leaving the office to save money and help reduce College’s carbon footprint. Wait a few second and a small window will appear:

On aWindows 7 computer, click Start and type “my info” in the search box and double click “My Info” application that appears on the top.

Access your computer from home We hope you turned off or put your computer to sleep before you left the office. You can easily turn it back on remotely by clicking on your computer name at www.imperial.ac.uk/wakemypc 1. Start the Remote Desktop application and expand OPTIONS.
2. Select the “Advanced” tab then click the “Settings” button within “Connect from anywhere” frame
3. Select the “Use these RD Gateway server settings” radio button and fill in: Server name: ictsgw.cc.ic.ac.uk Logon method: Ask for password (NTLM) Page 3 of 4

Ensure “Bypass RD Gateway server for local settings” is checked Tick “Use my RD Gateway credentials for the remote computer”
4. Click OK then click Options to contract the screen and return to the connection screen. 5. You only need to do the above four steps ONCE. Enter the short Computer Name of your College computer you found using “Getting your Computer Name” step on Page 2 in the “Computer” field and hit Connect. When prompted enter your IC domain username and password, ensuring the username is entered as “ic\username”. Your session should now connect. If you are connecting to a Windows XP computer, you may have to enter your username and password again. If you are connecting to a Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 or Server 2008 R2 computer you may be prompted to accept a certificate.
