Creative Writing in Provence IAU College is pleased to announce the implementation of a Creative Writing Track for summer and semester students. Become involved in the cultural, natural, linguistic, and architectural features of Aix-en-Provence and the Mediterranean basin!

Overview The IAU College Creative Writing Track emphasizes the connection between cross cultural experience and a creative writing discipline. Students are encouraged to use their experience and learning abroad as material for artistic achievement.

Program Curriculum For Semester & Summer FALL & SPRING PROGRAM Art 270 or 370: Creative Nonfiction Writing and the Cross-Cultural Experience The study and practice of Creative Nonfiction writing will include an examination of elements of the literary essay, a sustained writing practice, and workshop. Effectively rendering meaning from experiential material through the use of a singular narrative distance, metaphor, and salient detail are core curricular goals. Course available at the Beginning/Intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced level. Taught in English. SUMMER PROGRAM This is a three-week, three-credit course that will run from June 4 - June 22. Students may complement this selection by choosing another course for the second summer session, or are free to take Creative Writing on its own in June. Art 275 or 375: Creative Nonfiction Writing in Provence The study and practice of creative nonfiction writing in relation to the study abroad experience. Techniques of writing creative nonfiction and development of the creative process, including writing exercises, workshop and final essays. Course availble at the Beginning/Intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced level. Taught in English.

Field Studies Students participate in day-long field studies in the region and make various guided visits around Aix in service of developing additional material to that which is garnered through their daily experiences in Provence.

Visiting Writers

Each semester selected visiting writers from various disciplines and cultures will be invited to IAU College to give readings and workshop with the students. Upcoming visitors will be announced on the IAU college website.
