Instead of the traditional way when time and resources are limited to prepare students to be a high-performance specialists in educational technology, this study examines how a web 2.0-based e-learning environment enhances students’ design skills through working collaboratively on their graduation project, which is aimed at developing an economical alternative for the interactive tabletop. The participants were 9 instructional technology students at the Faculty of Education, Suez Canal University who completed a motivation questionnaire and an achievement test in educational design after two semester-long project-based workshops. The participants were divided into 3 groups, every group had specific task, so that the first group were responsible for the hardware and settings, the second were responsible for the drivers software and the third responsible for the educational applications. The results showed significant gain in their motivation toward working collaboratively. In addition to the cognitive gains related to the skills of instructional design, The students’ outcomes exhibited in a tangible product which is produce the interactive tabletop and its educational applications.
