SCOPE FOR HOPE: Your payment from our Scope clause of about $170 should be in your hands soon. For most of you, it's under 1 hour of pay. For the children of Hope House, it means so much more. For the children at Hope House and other children-related charities that FDX pilots support, it helps provide economic support for much needed services. Most, if not all, provide help where help is greatly needed for children and their families who are undergoing life altering events. Injuries, AIDS, cancer and other life threatening episodes are issues that no family should endure with their cherished children. The goal of the FedEx Pilots Charitable Fund is to provide much needed funding so that those institutions that focus their support towards child-related issues can succeed. Please consider donating a portion, if not all, of your Scope Penalty Payment towards the Hope House of Memphis through the FedEx Pilots Charitable Fund (www.fedexpcf.org). For other locations worldwide, we will coordinate donations with respective FedEx pilots towards children-related support organizations in their areas. The FedEx Pilots Charitable Fund is a nonprofit 501(c)3 fund registered in all 50 states. It is run by FedEx pilots for the primary purpose of providing funding for child related support organizations in locales where FedEx pilots live. Please consider donating towards this worthwhile endeavor. Every dollar donated to the FedEx Pilot's Charitable Fund April 15 through May 10 will be donated to these organizations. FROM THE TRAINING COMMITTEE: Returning to line flying after LTD Fellow pilots,
I want to inform you of a recently formed program that is designed to facilitate the transition back to line flying after being on Long Term Disability or any extended absence. The Initial curriculum is not designed for a pilot returning from a long absence. The CBA allows any pilot to audit ITU (Reference 11.P.18.a p.174 for details). Currently, when you call in well through the PAC you could be in Basic Indoc in as little as 7 days. We are working with the Company on a method to allow some measure of preparation before beginning training and after calling in well. Until such time, it is our recommendation to request an audit prior to calling in well, if so desired. Additionally, the Training Committee has gathered several volunteers uniquely qualified to guide the returning pilot thru this process. Each has overcome their own challenges after a long-term absence and can empathize with your struggles. When nearing a "return to work," the returning pilot should contact Todd Johnson at
[email protected]. He will coordinate to have a volunteer in this program contact you and help you navigate thru this fast paced return to work.
A long absence can create stress as you worry about the atrophy of skills. We feel that this program will greatly increase the success rate for pilots returning from a long absence and highly encourage you to take full advantage of this service and your CBA rights. Thank you to our fellow pilot volunteers who give of their time freely. We are at our best when we take care of each other. Matt Morley

LITHIUM BATTERIES - CALL TO ACTION: We are asking all FedEx pilots to participate in ALPA's Call to Action concerning the safe carriage of lithium batteries. We all know this is something that poses a major safety risk to us everyday. The FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 included language that limited the Department of Transportation’s ability to regulate lithium batteries to that of international standards implemented by ICAO. That has worked well for the passenger carriers but, to no one’s surprise, there has been nothing done for all-cargo carriers. We are asking Congress to remove the restrictive language and allow the Secretary of Transportation to issue safety regulations that will allow us to continue to carry these batteries but to do so as DG and in a manner that ensures our safety. Please contact your Congressman and ask for their support of our efforts. To complete the "Call the Action" and submit a letter directly to your Congressman, please click on the image below.
