Domenico Scala Domenico Scala was born in Basel (Switzerland) in 1965. He studied at the University of Basel and graduated with a degree in economics with a specialisation in corporate finance. He also holds executive development degrees from INSEAD and London Business School.
Since November 2011, Domenico Scala has been a non-executive Director of Basilea Pharmaceutica Ltd, a Swiss stock market-listed biotech company. He also acts as senior advisor to private equity and M&A firms. From 2007 to 2011, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Nobel Biocare Holding AG (medical devices), Switzerland and from 2003 to 2007, he was Chief Financial Officer of Syngenta Holding AG (agrochemicals), Switzerland.
In 2004, he was one of a selected few executives to be named “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum (WEF). From 1995 to 2003, Domenico Scala served in various senior leadership positions at Roche Holding AG (pharmaceuticals/diagnostics). As Head of Corporate Finance and Group Treasurer of Roche, he was responsible for CHF 25bn of assets/liabilities and executed a broad range of debt and equity-related capital market transactions and acquisitions. Before joining Roche, he served as Finance Director at Panalpina Italy SpA (forwarding) and Senior International Auditor at Nestlé (food, nutrition), where he began his career in 1989. Domenico Scala can draw from a wide range of large business, senior leadership and multicultural experiences. He is a Swiss and Italian citizen, married and father of two children. In his spare time he enjoys playing football. In addition to his professional activities, he has also assumed functions in academia, i.e. as member of the Board of Overseers of the Tufts University, Boston.
