In some instances, when trying to stream audio from a computer using iTunes® to an AirPlay® device such as the Bowers and Wilkins Zeppelin Air, an error message (-15000) may be displayed in the iTunes window. This inhibits the ability to playback audio, due to certain UDP ports on the system being blocked.

Although all reasonable care has been taken to ensure that the information contained herein is not untrue or misleading we make no representation that it is accurate or complete; it should not be relied upon as being authoritative or definitive. Potential users should therefore exercise care and judgement before making any changes.

This error is documented within the Apple support knowledgebase regarding AirPlay devices and can be found here. Before Proceeding Ensure that both iTunes and your Zeppelin Air firmware have been updated to the latest version. If you are using a third party firewall (such as Norton™ or McAfee™), the Windows® native firewall is normally disabled. If it isn’t this can be achieved by following the first three steps of this guide and then selecting the ‘Off (not recommended)’ option in the firewall settings. If after doing this you are still presented with the error message when trying to stream audio from iTunes, please consult the security software vendor for further instructions on adding ‘iTunes’ and ‘Bonjour’ (ports 6001-6003), as exceptions in your firewall settings. Windows Vista 1.

Please click the Windows ‘Start’ button and ‘Control Panel’, after doing so the Control Panel window will appear. (Please note: You may be presented with different styles of screen for the Control Panel)

2.

Now click on the ‘Security Centre’ icon, after doing so the Security Centre window will appear.

3.

Located in the left pane of the window is the heading ‘Windows Firewall’, please select this option. After doing this the Windows Firewall overview will appear.

4.

Please select the ‘Change settings’ option within the Windows Firewall overview, on doing so you may be presented with a ‘User Account Control’ dialog box, please click ‘Continue’. The ‘Windows Firewall Settings’ window will now appear. Ensure the ‘Block all incoming connections’ box is un-ticked.

5.

Located at the top of the Windows Firewall settings window are three tabs, please select the ‘Exceptions’ tab, doing so will navigate to the Windows Firewall exceptions settings.

6.

This screen displays those programs and services that have had Firewall exception rules applied to them. If ‘iTunes’ and ‘Bonjour Service’ are not displayed in the ‘Programs and Services’ box you will need to add them.

If both services are already listed as an exception, please proceed to step 1 of the Advanced Instructions below.

7.

To add iTunes to the Windows Firewall ‘Programs and Services’ exception list, please click the ‘Add a Program…’ button, which is located on the bottom left of the window. This will then open the ‘Add a Program’ dialog box.

8.

Please now scroll through the list of programs, select ‘iTunes’and click ‘OK’. After doing so iTunes will appear in the ‘Programs and Services’ exception list.

9.

To add Bonjour to the Windows Firewall ‘Programs and Services’ exception list, please click the ‘Add Program…’ button, which is located on the bottom left of the Window. This will then open the ‘Add a Program’ dialog box.

10. You will now need to click ‘Browse’, after doing so you will be presented with the Browser navigation window. From the ‘Look in’ drop down, please navigate to C:\Program Files\Bonjour.

The root directory (in the example above C:\) may vary depending on your computer configuration. In the instance you are unable to find the folder stated above, please contact your computer manufacturer or systems administrator. Failing this please contact your local Bowers and Wilkins support centre via the online trouble-shooter. 11. Within C:\Prgram Files\Bonjour is the file ‘mDNSResponder.exe’, please select this and then click open. You will then be presented with the ‘Add a Program’ (note that mDNSResponder is now listed), please click ‘OK’.

12.

After clicking ‘OK’ in the previous step, you will once again be faced with the ‘Programs and Services’ exceptions list, however now both iTunes and Bonjour (Bonjour may be named ‘mDNSResponder’) will be listed. Ensure both services have checked boxes and click ‘OK’.

In most cases, the instructions above will be sufficient to overcome this issue, however in some instances the firewall will need further configuration. If after completing the above process you are still unable to stream music from iTunes to your Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air, please follow the steps below. The following steps are more advanced than those previously explained. If you are unsure or uncomfortable completing them, please seek further assistance.

Advanced Instructions 1.

Please follow steps 1-4 of the previous process to navigate to the ‘Exceptions tab’ in the ‘Windows Firewall settings. After doing so, please click ‘Add port….’. The ‘Add port….’ dialogue box will then appear.

2.

Please now enter a relevant name in the ‘Name’ field (in the instance below we have used AirPlay(1)), in the ‘Port Number’ field enter ‘6001’and select the ‘UDP’ option. Once this has been done, please click ‘OK’.

Please note: this process will have to be completed several times so the name you assign to this exception rule should include a numbered suffix.

3.

Please repeat the above process for the following settings, still providing the exceptions with appropriate names:

-

Port number: 6002 UDP Port number: 6003 UDP

4.

You should now have three custom exceptions similar to that shown below, click ‘OK’.

If after completing this you still encounter an issue, please contact your local Bowers & Wilkins distributor via the online trouble-shooter.
