HOURS OF OPERATION
ROUNDHOUSE VISION & MISSION
In September of 1996 the Roundhouse Advisory Committee, composed of neighbourhood representatives, heritage supporters, members of the arts community and Park Board staff, undertook a retreat to work through a vision for the Roundhouse. The following is the result of those discussions: The overall mission is to celebrate diversity... of people, values, ideas and activities. This mission is made up of three key elements:
THE ROUNDHOUSE AS PROJECT
SEP 5-7
Labour Day Weekend OCT 12
Thanksgiving
All of us who work or play or socialize at the Roundhouse will be active participants in an evolving project to find new and creative ways to integrate the arts, community, culture and sports.
THE ROUNDHOUSE AS OASIS
The Roundhouse is located in the centre of one of the largest urban experiments in history, transforming a few hundred acres of mostly vacant lots into one of North America’s densest and most diverse urban sites. The Roundhouse will be an oasis in the centre of this dynamic mix, enabling people to use their creativity and energy (at whatever level) to rejuvenate themselves and to be better equipped to face a blizzard of challenges and opportunities around them.

The Roundhouse exists to identify and serve the needs of widely divergent communities. To do this the Roundhouse must reach out to the places and situations where those communities feel comfortable. These relationships will grow into Roundhouse programs through sponsorships, partnerships, and our own productions.
GETTING TO THE ROUNDHOUSE
Walking from Granville Street, head east five blocks down Davie • Underground pay parking is available (access off Drake) for $2/hour; $12 max/7am-6pm weekends and holidays and $3/6-11pm everyday. The underground parking closes at 11pm but shows that run later than 11pm will have access through the Roundhouse.

ROUNDHOUSE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE SOCIETY The Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre is unique as a community centre. Not only
are we situated in a beautiful piece of Vancouver's history, but we are part of a city-wide initiative to promote arts and culture. This means we serve not only the local community, but the city as a whole. We are proud to have been voted the “Best Community Centre” for a fourth year in the Georgia Straight’s Best of Vancouver! On August 23, celebrate the summer with us at David Lam Park for the Roundhouse Picnic in the Park and Outdoor Movie Night. There will be free music, BBQ, and much more. Also, join us on September 12 for a community performance celebrating good ideas. All summer long The Good Idea Lab, brought to us by the Association of Very Good Ideas and Tin Can Studio, featured a series of investigative laboratories where we explored, created and re-imagined some very good ideas. These experimental labs and workshops will culminate in a community performance celebrating “good ideas” in all their glory. Other events I am looking forward to at the Roundhouse are Halloween, Pumpkin Carving, Winter Solstice, Breakfast with Santa, and Diwali. Make sure to check the event schedule for dates and times. Finally, I want to thank our volunteers. Our more than 200 volunteers contribute approximately 10,000 hours per year to making the Roundhouse the great place it is. They do everything from staffing our special events, to teaching Tai Chi classes, to blogging about our community engagement, to running the Engine 374 Pavilion and everything in-between. Volunteering is fun way to contribute to your community. If you or your friends are interested in volunteering or becoming a member of our Board of Directors, please give us a call. Without the hours of volunteer service offered to the Roundhouse by our community members, we would not be able to do the wonderful work that we do. Volunteers contribute to our programs, special events, board and committees, and to various environmental and cultural events. Currently 207 volunteers give their time and energy to the Roundhouse, and these volunteers are as varied as the programs we offer. How can the humans who live in the salmon’s ancestral home today make the connections between their urban life and the current health of the ocean?
