Message from the Chief Executive Officer By now, many in our community have taken notice of the new Fieldhouse that has quite literally materialized on our campus in the past several months. This tremendous undertaking has involved the commitment and passion of so many leading up to and throughout the 20 months of construction, that it is impossible to start naming individuals. But the main thing I want to underscore as we prepare to open our doors later this fall, is that this place belongs to you – our community. The Fieldhouse and soon-to-be-built Outdoor Rink are Phase I of a larger campus redevelopment plan for Dakota CC (see page 8) that will see the ongoing enhancement of our facilities to best serve the growing needs of our community and, continue as one of Manitoba’s premier sport and recreation destinations. In addition to the Fieldhouse that will bring a ‘world class’ element to our community, the new outdoor rink will be a year-round, accessible recreation space, featuring ice sports and activities in winter and, beach volleyball during summer months. This much anticipated amenity is an integral part of our future and, made possible in partnership with government and private sector donors and sponsors. As plans for the Fieldhouse Opening Celebrations are being finalized for the fall, you will be invited to come see this wonderful new facility and learn more about the program and membership offerings available for you and your families. Please stay tuned to our e-news and The Lance or, visit our website, where further details will be shared in September. I hope you will join us!
Building Opportunities/Transforming Lives - Your Donation Matters We celebrate the spirit of giving and investment of all donors to the Dakota Futures Capital Campaign and want to make this an inclusive celebration of our community and the future vision of where and how we live. We are pleased that in collaboration with our community, government and private donors we are in the ‘community phase’ of our campaign and now we need you – our community - to help us take this over the top as we reach for the final 20% of our goal. Your donation matters very much, no matter what the amount. We encourage you to use the donation envelope enclosed to make your contribution to Dakota’s Future and help complete this phase of our campaign. You can also contact us
[email protected] or 204-254-1010 x 211) to use your credit card to make an online donation. We sincerely thank you for your investment in Dakota CC, for now and for future generations. While we begin a new era at Dakota CC, I remain extremely grateful for the hardworking Staff, Board and Volunteers who have given us the opportunity to truly celebrate the addition of our new Fieldhouse and 30 years of excellence in our community. I’m so proud of all that has been accomplished and looking forward to celebrating our past success and very bright future with the entire community very soon! Michele Augert Chief Executive Officer

A PROUD HISTORY IN THE COMMUNITY
Message from the Board Chair 30 Years of serving our Community Yes, you’re reading the new signs outside (and inside) the building correctly: Dakota Community Centre has turned 30 this year! That message may have been drowned out a bit amidst the spirited celebrations of ‘Canada 150’ this summer. But we’re still pretty proud of how Dakota continues to serve our community going on 30 years strong, and I hope you’re proud of it too. Dakota is undergoing an exciting transformation. What started out in 1987 as a modest gathering place for a small but growing suburb, will soon be seen as having ‘grown up’ into a vibrant, multi-use community hub that provides sport and recreation opportunities for everyone. It has certainly been a privilege to play a role – even if it was a small one – in this ongoing transformation, as a community volunteer and board member. No doubt many of you are as excited as I am for the opening of our brand new, state-of-the-art Dakota Fieldhouse! The 60,000 square foot facility – complete with sport courts, a running track, yoga studio, exercise equipment (and more!) – will provide a phenomenal year-round recreational space for our members and
“We believe that our Centre will be seen as a leader in community programming – and a place that our members are extremely proud of – for many years to come.”
Dakota CC Takes Shape
1987
As we celebrate and reflect back on 30 years, we are profoundly grateful for our club’s founders, for the countless volunteers both past and present, and our amazing management team and staff. And of course we are especially grateful to YOU our community members, for your continued support of our club. It’s no surprise to me that Dakota Community Centre is so often referred to as the best community centre in Winnipeg. I know it is, because together we have made it so. Tom Thiessen Chair, Dakota CC Board of Directors

We are very close to reaching our goal for Phase I of the Dakota Campus Plan. Now is the time to reach out to the wider community - small business, associations, individuals, private funders – and ask you to help us meet and surpass our goal. We are 80% there! Of utmost importance to the Board, Campaign Cabinet and Staff is that we respectfully honour, steward and celebrate the investment of all donors to the Dakota Futures Capital Campaign. Multi-year pledge fulfillment schedules and donation options. Multi-year pledge fulfillment schedules or other options such as a monthly or quarterly opportunities also make it easier to budget. For example, a $5,000 pledge over 60 months or 5 years equals $84 a month or $2.80 a day. We will work with you to make this work for your needs either as an individual or as a business owner.
Every Dollar Counts There are a number of ways that everyone can participate in a meaningful way. We have options for a planned gift such as a charitable donation tax credit or an estate gift. We have a number of options to take advantage of that would suit your budget. Sponsorships are another way to leave a legacy with a number of opportunities
that are still remaining for a business or family gift to make a difference. Individual gifts or small business gifts of any size help us reach our goal.
Matching Gifts
New Fieldhouse Opening 2017
Many companies and small businesses have a policy and practice to match donations that their staff make to fundraising campaigns such as the Dakota Futures. Ask your Human Resource department about your company policy and the procedure to follow. This is An easy way to increase the value of your gift and help us build our community for the future. We salute a number of community-minded companies that have this policy and we encourage you to check with your company about their policy and practice. Most companies will double or match your gift 2:1.
