Val Verde Unified School District Nationally Recognized as Future Ready District District’s plan to meet the future needs of students gains national recognition Perris, California – The Val Verde Unified School District has been officially recognized as a Future Ready School District. This national recognition has been presented upon the district after two years of intense planning and collaboration amongst the various departments within the district, along with input from parent groups. This Future Ready plan created by Val Verde Unified School District will be used as model on a national level for other school districts to use as an example of the commitment to instill 21st Century students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become productive citizens within the changing face of career choices of the near future. Thomas C. Murray, Director of Innovation – Future Ready Schools, was highly impressed with the plan that Val Verde Unified School District turned in and shared it with others within the organization including Bob Wise, Governor of West Virginia and President of Future Ready Schools. Murray stated; “We’d love to highlight this as a model as it’s truly dynamic.” The Val Verde Office of EdTech gave permission to Future Ready Schools to share it nationally and agreed to assist Future Ready Schools to spread their efforts with other districts. “We owe our students the opportunity to acquire 21st century career skills that will carry them into the future. It is an honor to receive this designation and see it is as another example of our commitment to our students and community,” said Michael R. McCormick, Val Verde Unified School District Superintendent. Future Ready Schools® (FRS) is a bold effort to maximize student-centered learning opportunities and help school

districts (public, private, and charter) leverage technology to prepare students for success in college, a career, and citizenship. Beginning with a systemic planning process, FRS will help any school district develop the human and technological capacity needed to personalize student learning. FRS is a project of the Alliance for Excellent Education (All4Ed) alongside a vast coalition of national and regional organizations. Since FRS’s inception in 2014, more than 3,200 district superintendents have shown their commitment to FRS by signing the FRS District Pledge. ### Val Verde Unified School District is located in the heart of the Inland Empire, approximately 72 miles east of Los Angeles. Neighboring the district and its communities are March Air Force Base and the Lake Perris recreational area. Val Verde Unified School District’s schools serve more than 20,245 students residing in the rural and suburban communities of Perris, Moreno Valley, and portions of unincorporated Riverside County. The district currently operates a preschool, 12 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, 3 comprehensive high schools, a student success academy, a virtual academy, and a continuation high school.
