Alcona Community High School Grading Policy Summative Assessments = 90% - Unit Exam, Mid-Term, Final, Unit Project, ● The goal of summative assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark. ● Any student may retest regardless of their initial score o Up to two times o Assessment can be based on standard or complete test depending on assessment o Teacher will be upfront regarding what style assessment will look like(standard vs entire assessment) ● No maximum score on retest (students can earn 100% on retest) ● Two week retest window from when initial test is returned to student o Could be before, during, or after school with adult other than teacher

Formative Assessments = 10% - Practice Work, Homework, Lesson Project, Quizzes ● The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning ● Teacher discretion of practice work/formative assessment worth past due date ● May assign an alternative assessment Quality Assessments: ● ● ● ●

Has various levels of knowledge The test is not a duplicate of a study guide Is NOT all multiple choice Is NOT open book – this is not helping students utilize their knowledge rather it is testing how to find information
