Diversity of gall wasps (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) on bur oak (Quercus macrocarpa Michx.) in Riding Mountain National Park, MB Map published by AAA
Scott C. Digweed Edmonton, Alberta, Canada;
[email protected] During 3 visits (29 April - 1 May, 24 - 26 June, and 29 - 30 August 2004) to several bur oak stands on the eastern edge of Riding Mountain National Park, galls of 18 cynipid species were found on above-ground parts of bur oak. The park is near the northern limit of the natural range of bur oak, but this survey showed that most of the 25 gall wasp species recorded from bur oak occur in the park. Galls of most cynipid species hosted guests or parasitoids from the following genera: • Synergus spp. (Cynipidae: Synergini) • Ceroptres spp. (Cynipidae: Synergini) • Baryscapus sp. (Chalcidoidea: Eulophidae: Tetrastichinae) • Aprostocetus (Aprostocetus) sp. (Chalcidoidea: Eulophidae: Tetrastichinae) • Torymus sp. (Chalcidoidea: Torymidae) • Sycophila sp. (Chalcidoidea: Eurytomidae)
