Indian Classical Music and Instrumentation: Bansuri technique, performance and history Jill Fischer My project intends to explore the topic of Indian classical music through learning to play the bansuri, a type of bamboo flute. Through weekly lessons with a guru, I will learn the necessary technique as well as practice exercises and the process of learning to play Indian classical music. In addition to learning the basics of the instrument I will also learn about the concept of Indian music theory through learning a raga and performing at the final ACM farewell ceremony. The beginning of my project will also cover a brief introduction to Indian instrumentation as well as a discussion of the evolution of Indian music, specifically focusing on the bansuri. I will explore Indian music and the bansuri during the Vedic era, Indian folk music, and contemporary classical Indian music.
