Solution… • PowerScribe – Speech to text technology – “Real-time” reporting – Faster Turn-around-time – Reduces the work-flow
Challenges : – Integration with “home-grown” HMS – Customisation to our needs – Smooth transition without disrupting the normal work-flow
Technical integration -
• “Tweaking” of HMS to establish seamless dataflow between the PACS and Powerscribe, with HL7 protocol acting as bridge • Use of open source solution called “MIRTH” as HL7 integrator that saved license cost
OVERCOMING DRAWBACKS • Customisation and integration with the HMS - ability to look at the prior reports of the patients and compare them with the present study. • New HMS – we will be able to integrate it in such a manner that we are in a position to look into all patient details while reporting.
Operational use • Gradually introduced in a phased manner • Fully operational in February 2015 • Now introduced in Al Ain and Dubai Hospitals

Scalability • At present Powerscribe is being used in 3 units of NMC – Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai Specialty Hospital. • We plan to incorporate it in all our existing 20 units across the UAE, in a phased manner. • After completion of this, we will be in a stage where – – we can have simultaneous consultations about uncommon / critical cases amongst radiologists of various units. – Peer review of cases can be done amongst radiology departments across our 20 units. – Seamless transfer of information across the units will benefit patients in getting second opinions, saving precious time and enhancing the patient outcomes.
