System introduction The system achieves real time electricity consumption monitoring,unsafe load identification and automatic “dangerous load shedding”. Besides,it realizes automatic cut off when users are in arrearage and automatic power supply after paying the fees. Meanwhile, the system is designed to prevent each dormitory’s power load to be less than the configured given threshold. It guarantees the safety of the whole building by keeping them away from fire due to electric overload. Guangzhou Suntrans Measurement & Control System Co., Ltd has been devoting to research on intelligent electricity management system based on IoT since 2000. The present products including smart switch, smart ammeter, smart network data acquiring unit, energy management system software. The serial of products solve the problem of electricity management on school dormitories. It has the advantages of energy saving, smart control, non-technological electricity loss reduction and raises the management level of school on electricity utilization.

System introduction The three step development strategy:

(1)Hardware equipment installation Install the smart ammeters, smart switches, the serial interface server and data acquiring unit

(2)Management software design Put the intelligent electricity management software based on database and IoT into use after finishing configuration with public database interface of school and the cloud side database construction.

(3)Software and hardware debugging Put the software such as electricity management software and communication network and hardware such as Smart switch, smart ammeters, the serial interface server and data acquiring unit together for testing.

Implementation scheme This series of products based on IoT platform for intelligent electricity management is self -developed by Suntrans. The overall design is shown in the next page. The key unit of the system is the smart switch. It achieves the propose of electricity load control and management by cooperating with the serial interface server , data acquiring unit and the smart ammeter which is able to identify the load.

Implementation scheme Smart Remote Load Controllers (SRLC)are selected as a core control terminal device and are used for constructing distributed electrical system. They are a typical MPU embedded smart terminal device which are designed based on the patent technology of the AC zero-crossing and have an electric power input interface and multi remote controllable electric output. The main related products include three-phase smart remote load controller (ST-SRC), three-phase smart motor controller (ST-SMC), one-phase four channel smart remote load controller (ST-SRLC-4) and one-phase ten channel intelligent load controller (ST-SRLC-10).

The characteristics of ST series products which have integrated TCP/IP protocol are no arc, long life, lower power consumption and cost. They support multi-communication mode, such as RS485, CAN, Zigbee, Wi-Fi etc., and can complete the time of a load protection action within only 20ms so that electrical accidents and fire hazards could be prevented effectively.

The ST series smart meters are designed based on the advanced kilowatt-hour metering IC, DSP and SMT technologies for realizing real-time, accurate and quick measurement of electric parameters. They are characteristic of long-life ,high reliability, and strong safety. They have a good performance of accurate measuring real-time voltage, current effective value and power factor etc.. They support multi-communication mode, such as RS485, CAN, Zigbee etc., and they have programmable and remote- configurable faction which complete the time of a “load identification” within only 60s.. Besides, they are equipped with LCD display and inner temperature controller.

The intelligent load management system designed for dormitories realizes load monitoring and online management. The key control unit is ST-SRLC-10. It communicate with the server by RS485-RJ45 switch. With the help of the server software,the system realizes real-time online electricity management.

The system satisfies all the requirements for the present dormitory management. The design conforms with the regulations of MVC which separate model, view and controller. Besides, it not only suitable for student dormitory,but also suitable for faculty dormitory and school public electricity. 1 Each room has two meters separately measuring lighting &socket electricity consumption and air-condition electricity consumption. 2 Power supply is remote controllable for each room. 3 The management software has interface with school public database, campus card system and short message platform provided by school. 4 The management software stores the data of power consumption , power factor and expenses situation every 10 minutes. 5

The system sends insufficient balance warning, cuts off /recovers power supply according to expenses and electricity consumption situation.

The software adopts the pattern of multi-level authorization management. The center administrator authorizes each building administrator to recover power supply for each room.

Users can pay charge and query for balance and power consumption information through the Internet. Be able to response to query for power consumption history curve and history overload event. The number of users must be above 20,000. Besides, the target can be extended to 200,000。 The system must be able to recovery data when the Internet or electricity is turned off. High-power resistive loads identification and power supply limitation. Automatic cut off when overload and recovery of power supply after 3 minutes.

13 The system disables after 4 times continuous cut off. The power supply will not recover until the administration unlock the system. 14 Automatic power supply cut off when overload or using resistive load of 100W- 300W. 15 Automatically take the power subsidy into account. 16 The system can be put into use or suspended at regular time. 17 The system is able to settle accounts when students check out or change rooms.

It will act as an electricity “big data” system and collect a large amount of parameters data from the student’s dormitories, such as voltage, current, power, power factor, electricity consumption, switch state, payment records, deduction records and so on.

parameters measured by smart electric meter and then implement power-off control for “unsafe load“. Managing and controlling high-power load and unsafe load can be completed intelligently (unsafe load: resistive load (such as Electro thermal cup ,egg boilers , Electric blanket and Electric kettle,etc), Mixed Load with reactive power compensation (such as Fans, small washing machine, large battery equipment, large rechargeable batteries and motors more than 100W,etc) load which power greater than or equal 60W ( adjustable ) The system can be designed to automatically restore power three times in an hour after power off owing to unsafe load . The fourth to restore power requires students to apply and submit a report and manager restore power by hand through software or switch placed in electric control cabinet . Thus management efficiency is improved and electrical safety is guarantee.

Management software has function of graded authorization. Center administrators can authorize to each administrator of a building. The administrator of a building is the directly manager of the dormitory electricity information. They are responsible for power management and dormitory management. Students can query electricity information and control electrical equipment of their dormitory through computers or mobile phones and other smart devices.

The system has the function of subsidized lighting electricity consumption. It can display all personnel information of a room and automatically add subsidized electricity to the corresponding account according to the number of staff and subsidy standards. Subsidized electricity and purchased electricity will be calculated separately.

Client App realization App function introduction The development of the App is based on the two operating systems-Android and iOS. The functions and interfaces are the same when running on the two operating systems. Here are the functions: 1. Users can log in the system to gain authority. 2. Users can inquiry the student information, the dorm information, the account information, the electrical parameter and the electricity state. 3. Users can inquiry the historical data and the historical graphs of the electricity, the electricity bills and the status logs. 4. Users can control the switches. 5. Users can modify their password and phone number. 6. Users can recharge for account. 7. Users can find a room or student in dormitory quickly through search.

A student is authorized to be able to monitor information of electric system in ones dormitory, as well as the administrative manager of the building which could also monitor and control all the room facilities in the relative authorized buildings. This system was a breakthrough which achieved a transparent IoT system in managing electricity supply to the buildings and easily let students play a role in monitoring their power consumption process and pay bill by the usage of their smart phones. Not only the application and popularization of the technology could provide a more convenient, transparent and remote controllable electricity system but also it could effectively improve power management technology in order to improve energy efficiency and energy management. The application of the IoT system will reduce 98% of each building’s employee workload, as well as enhances the electrical supply safety and intelligent management level of student dormitory buildings.
